I posted a music video yesterday 'Yeah,I know,But I Like it' (Bruno Mars)
Today I cannot play that video. I am getting the following message:-

'Your browser does not currently recognise any of the video formats available'

Underneath that is usually a message that I need an updated version of Adobe Flash (I already have the most up to date version) or I get a message 'Click here to visit our frequently asked questions about HTML5'

Can anyone here help me on this?

Is it on the same computer Peter?

Do you know if you have a 32 bit or a 64 bit operating system installed?

On 64 bit Windows you have two versions of Internet Explorer a 32 bit version and a 64 bit version it is possible that you have started the 64 bit version and it does not have the right 64 bit version of the flash plugin installed, just guessing :erm:

Try going back to the source of the video on youtube and see if it still plays there, I just tried it here and it works ok.

    1. There was an update to Flash Player in the last couple of days. You should have version 11.1.102.62; if not, then update it.

    2. Youtube has an opt-in for HTML5 at the moment but your browser may not support HTML5. Maybe you have set this option somehow and you are trying to play the video whilst logged into Youtube in another tab/window of your browser? Try logging out of Youtube or try another browser with support for HTML5.

oss, same computer. 32 bit Vista

Yep, I can watch it no problem on YouTube.

Howerd, I have the latest version of Flash Player
I previously opted out of HTML5

    I think I'll try re-installing IE9
If that doesn't work, Ill try restoring back to a few days ago.
That always causing problems with Avast, but no choice.

    Thanks to all.
    I get back later.

Maybe time to bite the bullet and get that Toshiba that's been seducing me.

I wouldn't reinstall IE 9 it is much more likely a configuration thing, I did not read your original post properly if I had I would have seen the mention of HTML 5, nothing wrong with HTML 5 and personally I would opt in if anything was asking me to.

Howerd is probably right about it being something to do with the HTML 5 option. Apart from that I found only one other reference to this problem on the net in relation to VBulletin and your specific error message and the other post was not that helpful.

Well, I just now logged in and tried that video. All worked well (almost)
I uninstalled both FlashPlayer and IE9 using CCleaner.
    Restarted.
    Re-installed FlashPlayer
    Restarted.
    Re-installed IE9
    Restarted.

So now I can play videos again, except now a small windows opens up in within the video frame saying this:-

    Adobe Flash Player Settings
    Local Storgare
    s.ytimg.co is requesting permission to
    store information on your computer

    Requested: up to 10KB
    Currently Used: 0KB

    allow or deny

So currently I am clicking the deny button.
Well this is a new one on me.

    Anyone have an idea?

    Sorry for so many questions.

It looks like the problem I originally had was either a software conflict somewhere, or was connected with me making 'disable' on all add-on's.
(have to be alert next time :erm:)

Yes, if you disable all add-ons, Adobe Flash Player will not work, since Adobe Flash only works via an add-on; Flash it is not native to any browser so if you disabled add-ons, it is the same as having no Flash installed on your PC - I don't think that any software check would even detect its presence in the disabled state!

That is probably why you also saw message about HTML5 - Youtube was trying to play the video using HTML5 instead but could not as you did not opt-in for the Youtube HTML5 trial.

By uninstalling Flash Player and IE9 using CCleaner, it appears you have lost the Youtube settings for Flash Player (CCleaner is pretty good) s.ytming.com is exclusive to Youtube. If you go to other websites, you may find those websites making similar requests, since such requests are site-specific. If you don't allow more storage, you may have video playback problems. On a site like Youtube, I guess you are gonna trust them; if you are visiting some porn site, then you could be in the hands of the devil:f::f:

    Very useful Howerd, thanks :like:

I read the link you provided. Seems that 10KB is requested for a cookie. I guess it would be ok but....
Howerd, you're very security conscious what do you think? allow or deny? cookies are generally benign aren't they?

If you have no problems playing video, I guess you can deny. But Google (who has owned Youtube for 5 years) loves to know what you do on the internet! But, in all honesty, I don't know what Youtube may be trying to store.

I have a shutdown option as an icon in the Windows menu - it automatically runs CCleaner - deleting everything it can using the SECURE DELETE option - that includes any temporary Flash files it can safely get rid of.

One thing to be very wary of...

NEVER NEVER NEVER say YES to a prompt which says you need an update to your media player in order to play media content unless you are absolutely certain it comes from the author of the media player, or you are absolutely certain you can trust the source!!!
