Hey guys and gals, If you speak to someone on a mobile 12,000 miles away, using a standard mobile, will it be always inevitable that there is a five or six second delay between what is said and what is heard, and the reception is crappy? I know that was the case years ago, but I hoped mobile phone technology had improved since then. I dunno, I am very thick when it comes to this area, so if you are slapping your forehead right now then please forgive my naivety.
LOL, about twenty five years ago it was like that, not any more fortunately. I know exactly what you are referring too, I remember calling Australia and having the very same experience you are talking about. Try calling the loved one using Skype or a similar program, saves money and hassle, you have good video too of course.
From experience phone reception can be very poor away from the main towns and cities in the Philippines, also depends where the phone mast is situated, a busy network might make it worse as well. Poor quality, delay, and even worse the dreaded echo, but it might be OK if you call back 5 minutes later. btw, London to Manila is 6,666 miles according to Google, are you speaking metric?
I think the situation of the mast might have something to do with it. Haha, well you know Manchester is a little further on than London
If u r calling from Like Skype, viber, whatsapp and other apps then they use something called VOIP http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voice_over_IP But if u r using just the normal phone or mobile line then it should not be a problem. as i call AUS, HK and India every week and i never had any problems like that.
I Installed mobileVOIP to use to contact the missus I Balanaga, pretty much useless as we could barely hear each other with the interference! It cost me about £10 for £10 credit (you pay in euro but there is a fee, so the currency difference + fee works out just under 10 quid), it's 10p a minute which isn't great but worth it if you can get good phone reception but intermittent internet reception. Although I imagine one is mostly likely going to come with the other!
Hi Andy. Don't know about mobile phones but when my brother in Northern Ireland contacts his wife in Manila on Skype - which is at least 3 times a day - he always complains about the poor reception, frequently breaking up and delays in conversation.
I use Skype to K's mobile or occasionally to her iPad via her "pocket wifi". Reception is frequently dire, and this being the rainy season it is worse in the rain. There is apparently a technical reason for this.
