Personally I always make sure I have about 700 peso left to take back over next time, my taxi fare is 440 peso, two lot's of 20 peso for the helpers and probably 100 peso for the driver (who usually wants more) but I have by that time usually explained my total impoverishment, struggling to bring up two kids, blah blah, how poor we westerners are these days. Of course they never believe you, but I'm almost as good at the sob story as they can be sometimes. I find since the yellow cab taxi rank opened up just outside the door of the terminal that the taxi's supplied by the old taxi office across the road are much more aggressive than they used to be, I think next time I will try the yellow cabs.
The taxi driver thought he get away with asking far too much from me at the airport, little did he know about my wife who had the better of him.
