The Hong Kong Passport processing hub has been closed-down and all applications must now be made in the UK. In order to apply for a new or replacement Passport abroad, you will need to complete an online application form, print, sign and send it together with the required supporting documentation to the Passport Office in Liverpool. They only accept payment in Pounds Sterling by either a Debit or Credit Card issued by a British Bank.

They never make things any easier do they, used to be able to get a passport replaced in a few days at a British embassy, without all the delay, and security risk of sending the passport by mail.

I think from checking your link that the "issued by a British bank" requirement, or as they say "UK domestic" only applies to Maestro cards. Any international Mastercard or Visa card may (theoretically) be used.

For gods sake, these days I thought life was supposed to streamlined and more efficient. It would appear to be moving in the opposite direction. Passport renewal will have to be timed with hols back in the uk for me I think
