So.. I got a letter from the passport office asking me to provide proof that I changed my name from Florgeolette Omelio Walker (Omelio being my maiden name and identified as middle name in Phil passport) to Florgeolette Walker. What proof do they need? They asked for my cit certificate and uncancelled foreign passport which they have. Only thing I can think of is my marriage cert? Any ideas?
I was just on the phone to them and they said that it isn't? That I have to go to phil embassy to have a new passport qithout the 'omelio' which is silly as it is going to be expensive!
I am. Lady on the phone mentioned about renouncing my Phil cit... but I said will not go to London and spend unnecessarily.. I already spent enough just to get Brit cit... she said she'll refer to to case officer
There is nothing in UK law preventing you being a dual citizen, this sounds like a case of a misinformed civil servant. What does your marriage certificate show? And what is on your citizenship certificate?
My marriage cert has my maiden name. My brit cert has Florgeolette Walker on it and my FLR and ILR too. My phil passport had 'omelio' as middle name as it is customary to include that in all legal docs in phils. Lady in passport ofc said that I would have to include 'omelio' in my brit passport.. so I said yes if it makes it easier..
I would imagine that is would be nearly impossible to get the Philippines Embassy to issue a replacement passport that omitted your middle name, therefore the UK passport office are making impossible demands on you, you are a British citizen and should be entitled to a British passport in the name given on your citizenship certificate.
I just checked Florge and you have given them all the required documents, I can't see the Philippine Embassy giving you a new passport in a different name to their records so you need to forcibly make it clear to the the UK passport office as to why there is a middle name in your Philippine passport which is that middle names are a formal requirement of your original country and that it is your maiden name moved to the middle as per Philippine tradition.
I did say that. Thus she said she'll refer it to a case officer. She also asked if I don't mind including my maiden name in my brit passport so I said ro go ahead if it makes.it easier.. they'll write to me soon and what I should do next.. oh well.. they really don't make it easy
Right.. so an update tp thisnone is that the passport office has reqyested if I can give additional docs to prove that I have been using Florgeolette Walker and not Florgeolette Omelio Walker. They gave me a list and would have to provide 3.. gave them 4 so hopefully that solves it!
These damned fools really do like wasting taxpayers' money don't they. Poor training , ignorance , and lack of simple common sense. Maybe a link to this forum should be printed on their office wall. One reason I do recommend that all documents involved in the visa process should whenever possible bear exactly the same names with the same spellings used throughout. (Check !). Then you won't have to dash off to your embassy halfway through your wedding, as I did with the first wife, simply because some fool had used the wrong spelling on one of our forms... and we hadn't thought it important.
