Now my ILR expires in December so literal don’t have time now. Life just happened atm and had twins! Anyways can I apply citizenship with an expired Filipino passport? I remembered someone on here did and they accepted it.
ILR Does not expire it is Indefinate Leave to Remain. The key word is indefinite .Don’t worry about the date on your BRP card they all( the ILR BRP cards) have that date the UK Gov are looking to implement a new system in 2024 that’s why you have that date but you are here on Indefinite leave to remain Here’s a trick apply for your new Philippines passport before BC when you get the Philippines passport it will be valid for 10 years then apply for BC you will be dual national whilst your Philippines passport is valid. Only when it expires (10years) will you have to reapply for your Philippines nationality back You will enjoy the benefits of UK passport and if you go back to the Philippines you will enjoy the benefits of the Philippines passport citizenship. congratulations on the twins!
Ahh thank you for that @Mattecube ! I thought because my BRP card says valid till 2023 Nov 11 actually not December so panicking as I know they said I need 6 months to prep for the citizenship. I’m not fussed with the Philippine passport worried might take awhile so wanted to sort the citizenship straight away and worry about my Filipino passport? I just need to get this sorted asap as it’s always at the back of my mind because my passport was already expired last August .
Ohh also on that note how long does it take to renew my passport here? Will it take months? You know what Philippines is like they are so bloody slow lol
Sorry mis read your post slightly you will need a valid passport to do this so get your new passport and apply for BC so step one Get new passport think it takes about 12 weeks ( do the passport as soon as you can) Then apply for BC it’s ok to apply with expired BRP but do not lose your card.
This is good to know. I thought your current Philippine passport will no longer be valid once you become a British citizen regardless of its expiration date.
It is an interesting point as my understanding of the law was that at the point of getting alternate citizenship then you lose filipino citizenship legally. I was also under the impression that HMG advised other nations that their citizens had acquired british citizenship. Not sure why would do it but thought I had seen it elsewhere. The major questions are does HMG actually do it in which case no issues as what they dont know they can't use to cancel passport, if the philppines government found out would they do anything like flagging or canceling passport - I suspect not. In all probability passport remains valid although does not mean that you are a filipino citizen until take the oath of allegiance as at that point legally regain citizenship. Though I had read elsewhere that there was a caveat that for gaining certain citizenship and sure British was one did not equate to automatic lose of citizenship. My plan for wife is quick visit to local embassey when acquire citizenship to take the oath of allegiance to ensure not an issue.

This law, which took effect on 17 September 2003, declares that former natural-born Filipino citizens who acquired foreign citizenship through naturalization are deemed to have not lost their Philippine Citizenship under the conditions provided in the Act
