Hello, I'm Simon, recently joined as I've a couple of questions to ask regarding arranging 'powers of attorney' for land registration in the Philippines, but that can wait for a while.

Lived and worked and married in the Philippines in the late 90's. Wife from Leyte but I met her in Hong Kong. I worked in Danao, Cebu, and Olongapo, Subic shipyard. Maritime ventures.

Relocated to Scotland in 2002 and been there ever since. Four kids (first born in the Philippines, others UK), wife obtained UK citizenship a good while ago when it was still quite inexpensive and relatively straightforward.

Had a few ups and downs as you do but things are generally good. I worked away a lot and the wife looked after the kids, hard work for her but she coped well.

Still have a house in Leyte and some other small plots of land. I think the wife would ultimately like to return in retirement but I find the heat a bit debillitating!! She has returned 3 times in the last 20 years with all the kids so obviously she has missed home somewhat.

Anyhow, that's a brief intro for now, cheers, Simon

Welcome Simon... I'm in Leyte, been here a while now, and it is definitely getting hotter... the sun feels stronger... often wear a jacket for protection when I use the moped (or motor) as they call it here.

I'm not a great lover of heat. I worked on /off in the Arabian Gulf at near 50 degC temperatures with no real problem, but found the Philippine heat quite stifling.
My wife's family are in the Ormoc/Albuera part of Leyte. My first daughter was born in Baybay. I haven't been back since 2002 but may have a trip out there soon as I have a friend who has recently emigrated to Siquihor.
Whereabouts in Leyte are you then John, Tacloban or Ormoc side?

We're in Baybay - hope your daughter wasn't born in the WLPH!
We go to Ormoc/Albuera quite often for shopping and swimming.

My daughter was born at the 'private' Dr. Palermo clinic if I remember correctly, I imagine he is long gone by now as he was a good age then. Only thing I can remember is that he wanted to give the wife a caesarian, probably so he could charge me a lot more. When I went into the labour suite to investigate the assumed birthing 'emergency' I reckon he thought I was a doctor as I immediately found the 'missing' heartbeat by my random positioning of the stethoscope close to my wifes pelvic area! Thus she had a natural birth which was reasonably cheap.
That's when I realised how lucky we are in the UK to have the NHS.
I'll make it back to Leyte some day, we still have a house in Balugo2.
    Cheers

    Hehehe!

They're still at it... 100k 10 years ago for Palermo CS so probably 200k now!

Fortunately my wife worked for them once and new the game... didn't stop the doctor at the private Hospital up the road trying it on again when she had her second child though - In the end we had to change doctors because my wife believed she was going to be drugged up and given a CS anyway!

Your old Dr is dead now... but his son (not a doctor) has taken over some of his work... so yes, I wish we had the NHS here :D

That's interesting to know, I thought it was just me being a bit mistrusting.

Anyway, quick question John, my wife is after buying some cyclone wire to delineate the perimeter of the land in Caridad. Would you have any idea what they charge for this, per metre, in say Mercury hardware in Ormoc. I tried asking them via facebook messenger but they haven't replied. She's after about 60 mtrs, not sure why she doesn't ask her family, they are usually pretty trustworthy. No rush and if you haven't the time then no problem, it's just if you're passing that way anytime soon. Just a rough idea so she doesn't get fleeced!!

There is cyclone wire and cyclone wire unfortunately - comes in different heights and different grades (thicknesses)... I think I was using 4 feet but I can ask at the local hardware shop.

Went past Caridad today and I mentioned there was someone online asking about land there and my wife told me the land would be cheap in Caridad because there's nothing there... Have to admit it did look a bit boring compared to our place with it's new malls and shops etc.

Actually they have it on Shopee

    Here's a couple of pictures:

There price is for 5-6 meters - so for 4feet high with 4" hole - "near..." 6 meters in length will cost you P529 - So it's roughly P100/Meter for 4 feet high.
    60 x 100 = P6000 So circa £85 in real money.

Cheers for that John, must admit I should have googled a bit harder, I thought cyclone wire was just a 'string' of wire, didn't realise it was a whole fence.
Yes, Caridad was a bit quiet when I was last there probably around 2002, we put up a small Nipa hut style dwelling just to get some peace and quiet every now and then away from the wife's family. There was talk of many plots of land in Caridad being 'compulsory purchased' by the LGO last year but that has seemed to fizzle out fortunately because they weren't offering much more than what she originally paid.
