Seems all of Twitter is kicking off over the outage on the blackberry network, cutting off data communications for the BBM messenger service and online browsing. If anything, this has given Apple a sales boost this week as well as the other Android phones out there.

Not had a Blackberry for over a year, decided to go with Android after seeing how slow the Internet works on those devices. This is because all of the data first of all gets diverted to Blackberry HQ before getting re routed to the device. For messeging, they have some amazing encription services that are meant to protect business owners and high level clients from risking information getting leaked. But I think given this recent outage, it is clear that in the growing smartphone market they don't need to provide this sort of protection to Joe Bloggs sexting his girlfriend or whatever...

Though, for me personally. I would think long and hard before switching back to Blackberry! I like the fact that my data is between myself and my phone company. And I can use any messenger I like on my device, Yahoo, Facebook or MSN. Anything...

Strange how I always disliked Blackberry, iPhones and Nokias with a passion.
Maybe I am an Inveterate Sony-Ericsson aficionado, for some strange reason, but next April I will be trying HTC, and see what the fuss is all about.
Just waiting for the contract to end really, as the cash cost is prohibitive at the moment.

The outage for Blackberry has been long in coming, if you ask me.
Too much international data passes throught their Slough servers, and sooner or later it was bound to crash due to capacity storage or whatever.
If computers are involved, then you have to expect it. It isn't matter of how, just of when............

I heard on our local radio station that this Blackberry outage' had severely impacted the county police communications somehow. The report mentioned over 850 Blackberry devices in the county police force. It seems that traditional secure airwaves needed to be used along with more then usual visits to the 'office'. Mmmm

When I was working for the civil service they had over 10,000 Blackberry devices.

One good line I did hear today was when someone suggested that if the Apple Iphone also had problems then the newspaper headline would be 'Apple and Blackberry Crumble'. That made me smile all day.
