No mate. I snorkelled with one on the Ningaloo reef in Western Australia. The first time you see the huge mouth coming out of the blue is something you never forget. Getting to see one is quite an operation. We left our scuba equipment on the boat and a spotter plane communicates with the boat via VHF radio. It happens so fast. A guide shouts "let's go" at a moment's notice and everyone has to jump in the sea with their fins on and within a couple of minutes, the huge fish appears. Mesmerizing. Some American tourists were on the boat for a few days and no whalesharks showed up. Sad for them after travelling so far.
I did it in Oslob, bit of a circus though, some fishermen killed one a few years ago,the DENR caught them when they were selling it in markets.
I don’t know if I told you this before, but I used to have a boat when I was in Spain/Gibraltar,I used to see quite a few sunfish in the med.
I go snorkeling every week near Apo island on a Marine sanitary. Great place to hang out with the locals away from the expats.
