My aunt has been receiving calls every day just after midnight, since early November! BT tell me they are doing line tests each night and keep promising to remove my aunt's line from those tests!

Strangely, these calls started on or around the 5th anniversary of a 'broadband' fault on my aunt's line. But my 87 year-old aunt has never had broadband! BT also tell me that they only do daily tests on lines that have broadband! The 'broadband' fault (dated 05/11/2006) remains open - BT cannot clear it because it exists on their old Customer Service System (CSS) which is now defunct; I have been unable to find anyone with access to that system.

    Any ideas anyone?

I would escalate his to someone higher up; I find a call to their 'newsroom' office with threats to take this further to local radio or TV gets things fixed very quickly. Any company doesn't want negative publicity. My Auntie had a problem with BMIBaby charging her incorrectly, and calls to the customer service centre got her nowhere, instead she got a friend who happens to be the editor of the Western Mail here in Wales to kick up a fuss, and BMIBaby capitulated quicker than a Boeing 737 landing at Cardiff airport.

    Heres the BT newsroom: http://www.btplc.com/News/Contactus/ContactBT.htm

If it was me getting these calls, I'd be very annoyed to say the least!

You are right, walesrob, calls to a company's press office usually sort such matters out.

In this case I have escalated the complaint to BT's complaints department and they are now on the case. I have also posted about the problem on a couple of forums and BT have picked up the case from those forums and have offered to fix the problem for free!

Last night I got my aunt to switch off the ringer of her corded bedroom phone and to take the cordless phone to bed with her. Even with the ringer off, the corded phone still rang! My aunt picked up the cordless handset and there was total silence - certainly no dial tone!
