Melody and I have been working non-stop since her arrival last May, including Christmas and New Year. I do remember promising her that we would explore Spain together once she arrived. So it is to her credit that she hasn't moaned once that I haven't kept my promise. So I have taken a couple of days off for us to enjoy a little trip to Barcelona, stopping at an airbnb place no more than 100m from the Sagrada Familia. It is one of the few things that Melody knew about Spain before she arrived, and something she had always wanted to see for herself It was intended to be a complete surprise for her, for Valentine's Day, but several women said to me that it might be a bit stressy for her to be woken at 6am and told that we leave in one hour. Tsk! Me? I could be ready to move house in fifteen minutes, but apparently women need more time to get their act together. Who knew, right lads? While we are there, we will also have a meal in a Filipino restaurant - La Gran Familia and pop into a Pinoy supermarket - the likes of which we don't have down in the sticks of Alicante, and then catch the train back, arriving home on Wednesday night. Enjoy a few photos of La Sagrada Familia that I nicked off the web as they will undoubtedly be better than any I might take in the next two days. Nothing so grand for us tonight... Another typical lazy mans Valantines for moi.. Pizza and a bottle of champers on the beach will have to do..Again!!
Very late in providing the update of how it went. A stinking cold, a broken computer and getting back to work delayed me. This is Melody as we were walking to the Sagrada Familia from the place we were stopping. Where she is standing is about halfway between the two. For those pinoy movie fans, lots of 'Barcelona -a love untold' was filmed in this park. The basilica was well worth the admission - really beautiful inside, and the guided tour was interesting even for a heathen agnostic such as I. We went to a Filipino restaurant in the evening, La Gran Familia, where Melody went full on with the menu, so much so that we ended up taking a huge doggy bag back with us. After a breakfast of crispy Lechon and lumpia, we went to the Filipino supermarket. We now have cupboards overflowing with magic sarap and three in one among a myriad of other delights. She also bought some milk flavoured crisps which I left to her as they were completely disgusting! The train journey was awful and as romantic as train travel is portrayed, over five hours without a smoke was a bit much. I could of course have jumped out onto the platform whenever we stopped but although I have recently turned 54 years of age, I am apparently incapable of getting back into the train before it leaves, and so was ordered to stay on board. It was Valentine's Day, so for once, I obeyed.
Looks like you had a grand time Chris, lovely pics. As an aside can I make a personal observation......in your avatar poor Melodys face is almost totally obscured by the Online/Offline logo. Maybe make your pic a mirror image, in which case it will be your face obscured and lovely Melodys face will be clear.....can live with that
I couldn't find an appropriate photo where my fizzog would be obscured and Melody's face visible, but hope this one will suffice. (If you like I can put it through some Instagram filters to mask off my boat race.)
