I think the reality of having bigger fuel bills, and the cost of living increases are having an effect now.

    I've cancelled Prime now.
I bet many others have done the same.

I'm keeping Prime, even at the higher price, the TV it provides in Prime Video is worth the price alone.

178 orders in 2021 and I've exceeded that already in 2022 although I won't be buying much more this year.

I had an Amazon Platinum credit card from NewDay but Amazon have just fired NewDay so that bit of branding is gone but I've earned a lot of cashback on that card in the last 18 months something like £100 through the Amazon points scheme, never paid a penny in interest as I always pay it off in full, I might get another Amazon branded card if they come up with a new provider as long as it isn't Amex, Amex don't like me :D

I have sometimes paid for Prime monthly then cancelled it after a little spending spree.

About a decade to 15 years ago I tended to do the same it was handy but only occationally, eventually they added enough value to it for me as a single individual that I subscribed and maintained it.

Sky TV on the other hand simply increased their price over and over and over while reducing the value of their content and I finally dumped them nearly a year ago and I really do not regret it, I consume TV via Prime, Paramount+, Disney+, Netflix, FreeVee and iPlayer for less than I was handing to Sky and often with a better quality stream than Sky pushed out over their satellite.

Prime currently has 'The Rings ofPower' which so far has been a very good re-imagining of Tolkeins Silmarillion and earlier writings, really been enjoying it so far, soemthing like 44 hours to go over many years to come.

Regards your point Mike, yeah they will be laying people off as people spend less, me as a consumer, and I am probably one of their perfect target consumers, I won't notice any difference because their AI driven IT systems will have balanced their human resource needs to such a high degree that no one will feel let down or fail to have their order fulfilled on time :) (I hate that phrase).

They won't lose any money or profits, they created a machine where resources like drivers can be had at the drop of a hat, they turned human beings and jobs into little more than a flexible resource that they can call on as and when needed, in other words their cost structure is totally flexible to their needs for profit.

I ve always thought the majority of Amazon drivers technically employed through a contractor through DSP schemes(Delivery Service Partner) and as such are classed as self employed, one story that went viral was that Amazon were laying off drivers, the truth being the DSP was moving state(USA) and as such the workers did not move state.

This puts some reasoning behind theirs and others such as Netflix recruitment and retention

Sounds like an agency, is the DSP simply an agency employing people that they can claim are self employed contracters?

Moving legal locale to another state at a stroke evicerates their former workforce?

not an agency, agency workers as you probably know dont have contracts, for example my wife worked for an agency for a short time when we moved up to Merseyside and she would pick and choose when and where she worked based on commute time and costs and shift pay and duration.
A, DSP is a contractor to Amazon to provide a delivery service, he the contractor (DSP) will agree a delivery service area, probably leases the Amazon logoed vehicles.
The DSP will normally facilitate a delivery package for areas within his area based on postcodes and parcel volumes, he will arrange maintenance of the vehicles, fuel supply (maybe use of fuel cards) and rate for each parcel delivered, and lease of the van.
This package will be presented to drivers on an ownership(self employed) basis, and will have contractual obligations
