    Divorce is finally absolute!!! Yay!!

Just to confirm - I was under the impression I needed a CNI and have applied for one, checking the British Embassy notes on Marriage in the Philippines it now seems that since 1st of March 2014 I need an Affirmation or Affidavit to marry - its not specified that I need a CNI at all - does anyone know if I still need one? Should I get one anyway just in case?

(Good news about the divorce. Another hurdle cleared.)

Yes. Some of us thought that. Just to be on the safe side. But in theory, yes, they appear to have shifted the goal posts.

So since this is a pretty new event I dont suppose anyone has any experience writing and submitting said affirmation? I guess I just follow the guidelines on the British Embassy Manila website...

I will let you know if I can get online in Manila. Due to do it on the 8th May. I got my CNI before I knew about the change, so have it as a back up. But it does seem it isn't needed anymore.

Yep. There was a chap here who found the same as you but we haven't heard back from. You could pm him. If I can recall his name...

Sunnyjim is his user name. Have a look at his thread...

The British Embassy no longer issues CNIs but has replaced them with Affidavits/Affirmations as to legal capacity to contract marriage.

So have I got this right then - I dont need a CNI from my local registry office, I need to 'produce' an Affirmation/Affadavit in the correct format and submit that to the British Embassy Manila? Whta happens then? They just stamp it if its ok and all is done? Is there a 10 day waiting period still? My lady went down to the Town Hall this week and asked the question but it wasn't clear there what I needed and they said 11 day wait...

This is relatively new so you are breaking new ground. Hopefully Sunnyjim will get back to us on his findings.

Carf too, post 4 above, is about to go for it in a few days and aims to get back to us on his findings.

It seems that you do not need a CNI now, but there was a school of thought that said get one too, to be on the safe side.

Just seen it John thanks. If anyone else is interested (http://www.british-filipino.com/ind...ry-from-1st-march-2014.8726/page-2#post-52561) (hope that works!

I have a meeting with both my current boss and my old boss tomorrow to get my payslips signed and I've also drafted a letter for them both to sign confirming my start dates with each company and my salary. I'm just hanging on for my P60 now - provisional date for travelling is now 15th June which gives me time to visit the embassy, wait 10 days and still get married in June (its lucky apparently!)

Yes. We lost time arranging and sitting the English Language Test - there were issues at the time with UKBA shifting the goal posts, the bank statements added a couple of weeks. And when my wife got the visa she stayed a further 2 weeks to say goodbyes and just generally pack and get ready.

And I didnt leave the Philippines till late in June, after honeymoon.

Hope so, seems so - so many stories online of things going wrong - if there are any problems with the wedding I cant get time off work until next year - disaster!

I managed to squeeze it all in to about 2 weeks and a few days. There wasnt much margin for error. But it worked and despite a bit of typhoon dodging. It was tight for me on days off from work, similarly.

Luckily in my new job my boss is an old friend so he's reasonably understanding but 3 weeks off twice a year would be pushing it! So its all got to be right. Still got the English test hurdle after the Hopkins fiasco and she was terrified of taking that even though her English is quite good - gonna have to persuade her to do it again now!

How far are you down the ILR/FLR route? You won't have had to deal with that yet right?
