Has anyone managed to access Yahoo Mail Messenger on a 3G Kindle in Cebu? Seems that SMART actually blocks access!

Any other instant messenger services that will work on 3G Kindle in Cebu?

Thanks Aromulus. I want to be able to chat to my loved one on Xmas Day as it has been a tough few months for her as the apartment she was living got burned down on 17 August (along with another 150 properties).

I used my Smart SIM in a Windows 7 phone back in July, the Yahoo Messenger client that is available for Windows 7 worked fine so Smart is definitely not blocking the ports.

To the best of my knowledge the Yahoo IM client in Yahoo mail uses the same protocols and the same ports for the protocols as the stand alone clients for each platform, windows, linux etc.

What is actually happening on the Kindle, I am guessing you have a browser available on the Kindle but he code that supports IM is not able to run?

Sorry but I don't have a Kindle and am not familiar with the limitations, my best guess would be a javascript issue or lack of support for Java plugins (javascript and Java have nothing to do with each other by the way, totally separate technologies from different suppliers).

I will try to do some research for you Howerd.

Thanks OSS. I bought the Kindle in the UK; there are no IM apps for the Kindle but it was possible (in the UK anyway) to log use the web-based Yahoo Messenger. I set this as a bookmark in the very primitive Kindlle browser (which is listed in a menu headed 'EXPERIMENTAL')

I bought the Kindle because it supports 3G connectivity in 100+ countries for free; by that, I mean zero usage charges! In effect, Amazon pay the mobile provider (in whatever country) for the usage.

However I believe there may be some limitations on Kindle usage in some of those 100+ countries; maybe Philippines is a country that bans Yahoo IM access?

I am now going to suggest my fiancée tries Beebo to access her YM account, in the hope that may work! The link you provided also suggests a similar service called eBuddy, but I think Beebo would be better suited to the Kindle's limited browser capability.

Since my original post I thought of another reason why Yahoo Mobile Messenger may not be working - I de-registered my Kindle before posting it, just in case it got stolen as someone logged into my Amazon account!

I am at work at the moment Howerd - but I'll check it out when I get home. BTW I have a 3G Kindle here in Cebu.

Thank you very much! If it works, a Kindle would be somewhat better than a mobile phone to chat on Yahoo (I think).
