Glacial progress in some areas, and no change in others. Any improvement appears to be slight, and offset by other setbacks. For such a wealthy country, the Philippines appears to want to remain poor, or at least the poor remain poor, while the wealth becomes ever more concentrated. Less a government, and more a keyholder until a proactive manifesto can be introduced. But hoping for that is like hoping for a second Christmas.

    Hi Chris,
The wealth seems to be mostly with Filipino families of Chinese descent.
A few years ago I was in an internet cafe near the university in Dumaguete, Negros.
All the youngsters in there were, looking at their faces, of Chinese descent and none were of Malaysian descent.
I realised that my wife's family (descended from Malay stock) were limited by the educational opportunities as most cannot pay the high fees to go to University.
I am very glad that she is now living in the UK and able to earn a good wage.
I am sure that she thought about the benefits of living in the UK for her children that she would hopefully have when she moved to the UK which came to pass.
The problems of poverty over there is such a shame and corruption does not help to improve the lives of many.
