A question from my Filipina ex wife on visit visas for her mother and aunt to attend her marriage...

R and I married in HK in 1997; we separated in 2010 and I obtained a decree absolute in the UK in 2014 .

R now wants to marry the chap that she left me for and has asked me to help her to get visit visas for her 70 year old mother and her 65 year old aunt, so that they can attend the wedding.

So I thought I would ask here...

    1. Financial requirements for sponsorship?
    2. Proof of adequate accommodation?
    3. Evidence of " need to return"?

Both ladies are effectively single - her mother is long separated from her stepfather and her aunt, who brought her up, is an old maid.

R's income is around the threshold level, can she take her partner's income into account?

    thats for a settlement visa--sponsor.

if you think about it--a visit visa applicant doesnt need a sponsor--but needs to show sufficient funds held to cover the visit and accommodation. if they dont have this--then they can use a sponsor to show sufficient funds and a place to let them stay. but i dont think theres any hard and fast rules re: £ amounts.

Ah, thanks. They do have sufficient funds ie they will buy their own tickets etc.

How long does it take for a visit visa application to be considered?

With regards to the £££ they just need to show that they have sufficient funds to cover the whole duration of their stay in the UK.

Your ex can sponsor them and she should write a letter of invitation saying that she will help with their travel expenses and accommodate them. She will back this up with bank statements and then proof of accommodation.

Evidence of need to return, if they have any properties on their name that should help or any dependants that they will go back to. People aged 60 or over are not really prone to overstay. They should write a good letter stating their true intention of visiting the UK and that they will go back to their home country at the end of their visit.

I would guess and without being ageist they will need comprehensive travel/ health insurance and probably including repatriation cover if one falls ill
    or has an accident.
It might be given the age of the 2 travellers and I do not mean to be disrespectful, without such comprehensive cover it might be one area the UKBA look at as potential overstay.
Hope you get a good result for them, are you invited to the wedding?

Thank you; that is a very good point.

I think not. R left me for P, whom she is planning to marry, and she has perhaps wisely ensured that we have never met.
