BBC2 9pm "Two years ago, London bus driver Josh West spent a memorable fortnight on the chaotic streets of Manila in the Philippines learning how to drive a `jeepney' - an adapted Jeep with no power steering, dodgy lights and an uncomfortable seat. In this follow-up programme, he returns to the city to see how it has changed since he left - as well as appearing as a guest on a popular TV chat show, going fishing in the South China Sea and getting behind the wheel once more." http://www.radiotimes.com/episode/v...oughest-place-to-be-a-bus-driver---the-return
Excellent - the two boys and I enjoyed it - Alex had actually seen the original programme a few days ago in "A" level Geography - he faced a barrage of questions from his classmates and had to explain that the Filipino side of his family are a bit better off - but he hadn't seen the update. Josh comes over as a terrific ambassador for Britain. It is very sobering to reflect that in the 18 years since Alex was born in Manila, the population of the city has doubled. The drift to Manila from the countryside is something that does not get looked at nearly enough - there is no sign at all of a regional policy in the Philippines. My blog here is by way of a discussion of these issues.
I saw the original a couple of years ago. Great update. A reminder of home for the wife and for me, who hasn't spent a lot of time in the Philippines, a refresher.
Loved it! And Josh... The guy is a star. If I ever bump into him in London I'll have to shake his hand and I hope he raises that £10,000.00
Yep, a really enjoyable programme and update. As everyone has mentioned Josh is such a charming guy. So open and honest. I imagine the programme has a much more poignant impact on those who have experienced the Philippines, and it certainly had me going a couple of times. What a wonderful project Josh has developed. He truly knows it's a long term commitment and I think he understands the importance and benefits of education. Good luck for his fundraising. Enjoyed it so much
