Yes. Found the flint in Libya. There were loads there. Other Geologists picked up loads. Libya shares a border with Egypt. This image is of the White Desert - made of chalk. Chalk being a source of flint nodules. In those days there will not have been a border at all. Stone Age man would have wandered in the region in general.

The condition of the arrowheads were perfect as they are pure silica and very very hard. So they have remained throughout the centuries almost like they were when they were first made. Unlike the shaft etc, of course.

Glad they nipped it in the bud before the UK was flooded with cro magnon taking all our caves :)
Geology sounds really interesting, I had a kid once try and diddle me out of cash in hunza Valley offering me a garnet he swore blind was a Ruby, I told him I wasn't as dumb as he looked.

Garnets are amazing but not worth so much.

The other one is Fools Gold. IronPyrite looks just like gold but worth nothing unless you get a really attractive display piece.

Yup, quartz, if ever you find yourself on a wet weekend wandering around in the Himalaya I can recommend a couple of shops ram packed with sacks of fossils and rocks to fossick through :)

I think you would really enjoy Australia and the Opals. Something I have never done but have known people do it.

I just remembered, I met an Aussie in Thailand, old guy who worked in the FIFO mines, he used to take loads of bits of opal he found to his Thai girlfriend, she set them in silver and flogged them :)
