Ambassador Manalo leads the unveiling of Philippine food products at Tesco Extra in Sandhurst The British public will get a greater taste of the Philippines from today with the launch of over 50 Philippine food brands at Tesco supermarket, one of the world’s largest retailers. Philippine snack foods, seasonings, condiments, mixes, sauces, biscuits, crackers, noodles and juices – among many others – will be available to both ethnic and non-ethnic consumers in the UK as they are introduced in some of the largest Tesco branches around Britain. The main launch took place at Tesco Sandhurst Extra in Berkshire, with Philippine Ambassador Enrique Manalo cutting the ceremonial ribbon. He was joined by Commercial Attaché and Philippine Trade and Investment Centre-London (PTIC) head Anne Marie Kristine Umali, Tesco Director for International Affairs Ian Hutchins, and importer Manning Impex Managing Director Andre Cheong. “The success of the partnership between Manning Impex and Tesco in promoting Philippine food products in the UK is a very clear reflection of dynamic, active and expanding Philippine-British trade and investment relations,” said Ambassador Manalo. Through the efforts of the PTIC, specialist Far East food importer Manning Impex was introduced to retail giant Tesco earlier this year, and their meetings resulted in the grand Philippine product roll-out. “We are very pleased that our introduction of Manning Impex to Tesco has moved forward into a concrete partnership, making Philippine food products more accessible to a greater number of consumers in the United Kingdom,” said Ms. Umali. “This step is a splendid illustration of what the Filipino and British private sectors and government agencies can do to advance and invigorate bilateral trade and investment relations between the Philippines and the United Kingdom. Through this partnership, both producers from the Philippines and consumers in Britain get to experience the real benefits of a borderless global trading environment.” The first Tesco stores carrying Philippine products are Sandhurst Extra (Berkshire), Wembley Extra (London), Harrow Station Road (London), Cheetham Hill (Manchester), Chestnut Extra (Hertfordshire), Horwich Extra (Lancashire), Stockton Extra (Stockton-on-Tees), Springhill (Birmingham), Yardley Extra (Birmingham), and Dungannon Superstore (Northern Ireland) Source:- http://philembassy-uk.org/british-retail-giant-launches-philippine-food-products-line
Excellant news, just need them to start supplying my local tescos, can't see it happening though to be honest
I watched Tesco's Chief Executive Philip Clarke being interviewed this morning. Tesco has reported its first fall in profits since 1994. This was one of the strategies that he is driving in a £1bn investment programme, so it's just possible that it's coming to a store near you soon.
That would be good, save me driving through to leicester or loughbrough every time the wife wanted datu puti
Our local Morrissons has a Philippine food section they call "ASIAN" but it is all from Philippines or to suite Philippine shoppers taste's. Tom
Morrison's eh...?? Will have to scout a bit better.... I was aware of an exotic vegetable section better that normal, but now I shall look out for more offerings..........
Good news. Our local Tesco wont be stocking these brands just now, but at least we can order them and collect at the store.
