I was promised a 'handshake' meeting with him today at City Hall but it fell through at the last minute due to an urgent change of plan. That was on his side not mine. Since becoming retired I don't have urgent schedules. Actually I hardly ever have schedules
I will pass on some comments from a Filipino friend of mine who is the Manila bureau chief for a news agency: 1. There is not a snowball's chance in Hell of a local politician from Mindanao winning a national election. 2. He isn't running to win. He is running as a spoiler. For this, he will be generously remunerated, particularly in the event of success. This is what he wants, as he is planning to retire, and would prefer to do so in comfort. 3. This is because Mindanao is the most "old fashioned" part of the nation, politically. Most of its local dynasties are signed up to Binay, and have been for some time, on financial grounds, and, believe you me, they can "get the vote out" effectively. 4. Duterte can take votes in Mindanao, particularly if running on a "federalist" platform, which no other candidate can reach, and will therefore weaken Binay. He may also attract some votes from Poe, nationally.
Bit more excitement from Duterte. Although he still claims he's not seeking to run as President there's still plenty of supporters who just don't believe it. I don't know what the declaration deadlines are but he's definitely in Manila now. His daughter and supporters are now all sporting the 'Buzz Cut' as a final urging movement. Sadly I cannot sport the Duterte Buzz Cut as I don't have enough hair to cut I suppose it follows the adage that "any publicty is good publicity" Just not quite in line with Oscar Wilde's "All publicity is good if it is intelligent" Still waiting
Miriam Santiago is running for president, with Bong Bong Marcos as her vice. So even if Duterte doesn't run, I will have someone to vote for. As long as no one from this from this list wins (hopefully... Hahhahahaha): http://8list.ph/candidates-2016-presidential-election/ and Binay doesn't win, all will be well. Binay will be the end of us all.
I'm a massive fan of Miriam Santiago. Sadly I don't see her as presidential material, she reminds me of a female version of UK's Boris Johnson (google him)
Former city mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio posted a photo of her with a shaven head with several hashtags on Instagram, stirring netizens to believe it could be a sign of bigger things to come. Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte's executive assistant as well as city councilors followed suit. Anyone here old enough to remember Brian Rix?

That was Monday's old news. This is Thursday's new news. We're talking Philippine Politics here. I think this thread has more twilight zone drama yet to reveal
Whoops!! Thread opened up again for a few more hours as my drama theory still has legs Duterte can still file COC for president – Comelec Even if his representatives already filed a certificate of candidacy for mayor in Davao City, the Commission on Elections will still accept Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte's COC for president if he files one on the last day of filing on Friday. - See more at:- http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/stor...oc-for-president-comelec#sthash.XuBBffAj.dpuf Run Duterte Run !!!
Er, no! According to the missus, Duterte may still run. Although PDP-Laban - Duterte's political party - does have a candidate for the Presidency in Martin Diño there is, apparently, a date sometime in December on which parties can substitute candidates. His daughter, Sara, will be the next Mayor of this city.
If this were a movie series, it would be like this. Duterte: I'm not running Duterte Part 2: I told you, I'm not running. Duterte Part 3: I told you thrice, I'm not running. Duterte Part 4: Still not running. Duterte Part 5: For crying out loud, I'm not running.
