I believe you. Back in those days we had only just landed on the moon. Had seen the advent of the pocket calculator and hadnt yet developed the desktop PC. Mobile phones were the size of a house brick and almost as heavy. Since then we have moved on and that includes the development of the motor car and automatic transmission to go with it. I guess we think of our past experiences on this but times have changed. I just drove it up the motorway at varying speeds and no sign of it dropping down a gear when overtaking.
Just checked the blurb in the manual. Towing is do-able. A bump start isnt. But then I think I only ever needed a bump start about the once in over 30 years.
i sold it after i bought my ZS. but i did like the car. only got buttons for it. the MGF in the photo was also mine--but had to sell it a year ago as i had nowhere to keep it. heres the line up 18 months ago: i changed the reg on the green one:
The 666 plate reminds me of the road into Bolton. A666 - Highway to Hell. They were talking of changing the name.
We've had Rovers in our family over the years - my grandfather had a P6 with a vinyl roof, my father had an MG Midget and I've had an Austin Metro and a Rover Metro. Mum had one of the last Rovers ever made - a City Rover, what a dog that was. A rather undiginified end to Rover.
i cant justify having a car--let alone 3 !,---i got a bus pass--dont use the car for days on end. so fuel consumption dont really bother me.
Have had the car just over a week now. So am getting used to the automatic transmission. I have had to tie both my left hand and left foot up to stop them from activating while driving. Apart from that all is well. Discovered that my wifes Filipina friend and her husband each have an automatic.
Just sold my old car to a local dealer. I didnt want the hassle of selling privately. Anyhow, he had an MG Rover amongst his stock. It was an impressive example.
Have you noticed that it is closed down on Saturday nights for the last 15 years? some rumors say it's because of suicide, folks jumping off the bridges.
I didnt know that. I effectively moved out of the region about 10 years ago. So would not have noticed. I just pass through occasionally now.
I only have a licence for automatic cars. The best automatics I found are on Vauxhall cars but there is a hit on fuel consumption. But some automatics (such as on VW Golf) actually use less fuel than their manual counterparts, I think because there is no torque converter and automatic gear changing on such vehicles is programmed for fuel economy, with gear changes being made instantaneously. There are also a few diesel automatics (such as the SMART car) My current car is a Kia Picanto and I find I often have to change down manually from fourth to third to stop the engine labouring. Of course, any automatic will change down a gear if you press hard on the accelerator (you have to overcome the resistance) but that is not always convenient.
