    Hi,

i'm Sqandalous (still a bit shy about using IRL name) from Scotland ; Currently going through the fiancee visa process with my Filipino other half c: just getting the last of our documents to gather and should be submitting next week. Just a couple of confused questions but I've already posted a thread requesting help, haha.
I've been to the Philippines on many many trips over the years and I love the country, the people, the food. It's a beautiful country to be in.
We are going to be settling in the UK once we are approved but we will be having our Honeymoon in Cebu and I'm so excited to be back in the Phils when that happens :)) so hi everyone, nice to meet you all

There are a few Scots here and quite a few filipino lassies living in Scotland that have been members for a long time, even a couple of Scots from as far north as you are (I can see your approximate location on the map).

yes, true! I live in a town that has a bit of a Filipino community. They've opened up a Filipino store here and I've visited a couple of times with my S/O and we always get our rice from there, as well as the yummy snacks haha.

Nor me, it stinks when being cooked, I banned the wife from frying it inside the house. She cooks that in the dirty kitchen outside.

If you successfully complete the fiancee visa process and your lady moves to the UK, you will not have to face the idea of eating fish on a daily basis but I'm sure that you saw seafood dishes every day on your trips over there.
As you know, Filipinos love seafood and there have been occasions when they move to the UK and cook dried fish at home which can drive English men to distraction . My wife tried it once and she never did it again when I complained so much. I really love fish but that smell was too much for me as well as our two kids.

Where are you thinking of having your honeymoon in the Philippines?
My wife and I married in a civil ceremony in Daanbantayan which is at the north tip of Cebu island.
We went on the spousal visa route afterwards which allowed my wife to be able to look for work when she arrived in the UK.
Best of luck with getting the fiancee visa. They are often refused.

*edit* ah, I see Jim mentioned stinky fish at the same time as me.

my man* moves to the UK, haha. I'm a female c: but I appreciate your point! thankfully he isn't a big sea food eater himself and he lives in Manila so I feel like it isn't such a prominent dish as it might be if you lived in the province or on one of the smaller islands.
we are thinking of honeymooning in the Philippines, yes. We are looking at the Shangrila resort in Cebu for a few days c:
Thanks, I've seen lots of rejections but also lots of success stories. I'm in a UK spousal visa group on FB and I feel we are well equipped with all the documents that we need, we are just currently waiting on the CENOMAR to arrive and then we will submit. I cover the financial requirements and have gotten all the specified documents (plus a few extra) so fingers crossed it all goes well for us. especially because our ceremony is booked and down payments paid :))

I have passed the Shangri La Hotel in Mactan many times but haven't stayed there. It looks nice, I would love to take my wife and kids there one day. I usually stay in cheaper, less grand places as my £ went on scuba diving :lol:
Where did you meet your man, if you don't mind me asking? This question is asked regularly on the forum. It is different when asking a woman as most members here are male. It is great for a woman to be a member, we have had many join but I can't remember when someone last posted here.

Our budget will only stretch to a few days there but its a honeymoon so have to treat ourselves! haha. it looks absolutely stunning so i'm looking forward to when we can start looking into booking and planning :) visa requirements out of the way first !!
We met online. About 15 years ago when we were just teenagers and online forums were relatively new, haha. We just clicked and spoke daily for years until we were both old enough for our parents to deem it acceptable that we could meet ~ so when I turned 19 I flew to the philippines for a week and we've visited each other and taken several trips together since then. We're now ready to get married, settle down and close the distance so here we are trying for the fiance visa! we're finally financially able to do so, so that's why it's taken us so long to be able to do it.

You have both planned things well and have taken time to get to know each other :like:
Lapu Lapu City is not too far from the Shangri La hotel. It is a small unnattractive town really but it has historical significance as it was where Lapu Lapu (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lapulapu#References) killed Ferdinand Magellan, the Portuguses circumnavigator who was exploring for the Spanish. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferdinand_Magellan.)
Never good to try to force Filipnos to do something

Great to have a woman on board and I hope your fiance gets his visa :like:

I was working on a seismic ship off Brunei in the 90's.
Two Aussie navigators on board lived with their Filipino wives in Angeles City.
They told me a story - they went out one night on a bender.
The following morning one of the men heard lots of screams from the kitchen.
His wife had opened the fridge to find a half-eaten dog's head.
The husband thought he had bought a chicken on the way home.
