How quickly threads can degenerate .....but at least we have a good crew in here these days now that some bad apples are probably on another forum.
Do you know the terms of this scheme John, is it 80% of your take home pay up to £2500 or 80% of your gross up to £2500. If it is the latter it is going to be a lot more scary as that will be a lot less after tax than most people might expect. If my employer has to apply for this later then I would expect £2500 take home as my salary is much higher, but if it is 80% of gross I am in trouble.
I am already on reduced hours anyway, so in my case it is 80% of my monthly income and is subject to tax. It will be whichever is the lower i.e. 80% or £2500 whichever is the lower. The employer pays you then claims it back from HMRC. So I believe it is 80% of gross salary, where 80% applies.
My employer posted a question on social media on key workers and got the locksmith response. so it gave me inspiration for the the thread.
When I first heard about the scheme I assumed it was tax free. But my latest understanding is that it isn’t tax free unless of course it is below tax paying threshold.
I first saw it on the government website. But here it is: https://www.accountancydaily.co/covid-19-80-rule-salary-payments-liable-income-tax-and-nics
Ah ok, we are not on leave and will continue to work full time so the company could not claim unless I was allowed to sleep all day
I think it is for 3 months on the assumption that we will get through it all in that time. Hopefully back to normal after that or getting there...
Not going to happen John, at last week's online management meeting one of our directors said he really hoped it would not go on for two months, I said he should be planning on 4 to 6 months minimum, right now the market will be disrupted for at least that long in my opinion, maybe not as much as right now but it won't be business as normal.
Yeah you have been laid off, so business has to stop, that is perfectly fair, this is business hibernation not unemployment benefit.
just the regular--dispo rubber gloves and apron, mask if anyone comes to the door ( no visitors allowed inside ) the main problem is other staff--outside contacts.
