you disagree with the statement that his moment of popularity will have come and gone, or that he alienated the Americans, killed innocent people and gave away resources to the Chinese?

I definitely do not agree that he will hand over the R.P territory and resources to the Chinks.. What I think he will try to do is to negotiate a resource sharing deal.. They finance the mining infrastructure and production costs and the Philippines receives its normal percentages and mining taxes per tonne or barrel.
Foreign miners do that here now anyway...Once the oil and gas is all gone there will be nothing left for the Chinks to be interested in here.
    Win win.

A resource sharing deal would effectively be handing over a percentage of the resources/profits from those resources to the Chinese for their initial investment/infrastructure, which is normal procedure in any country that doesn't have ability/funds for the project themselves. As long as the Duterte administration manage it well and don't get ripped off like many resource-rich African countries. The Chinese are not shy in doing that in corrupt countries.

At a broadcast presidential press conference on radio (DzRH) today, in response to a journalist who asked "Why the police is running after poor people only in its drug war?", Duterte said because the rich are using heroin and cocaine, which are not as destructive as shabu.

Thought you all might like to know that.

I used to invest money in a Brit company operating a large nickel deposit in Palawan shipping the ore straight to China...Trust me..The DENR have permits for permits!!! A red tape nightmare but designed to protect the R.P from disasters like what happened with Mar copper in marinduque.. I`d say that a lot of this red tape will have to be cut to tempt and placate the Chinese to deal nicely...
Interesting to see DU30`s next move.

Duterte warns China: If you invade PH, it would be bloody

CAMP CAPINPIN, RIZAL—President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday warned of a bloody confrontation should China invade the Philippines if talks over our maritime dispute fail.

“I hope China is dealing with us in good faith. They seem to be conciliatory,” Duterte told troops at the 2nd Infantry Batallion here.

The President said the Philippines would insist our territorial rights over the West Philippine Sea after the United Nations tribunal favored our diplomatic protest with China.

Actually, the thing that has really got my goat is this one, from a couple of months ago:

    http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/791172/pinol-tells-nia-quit-if-you-cant-provide-free-water-to-farmers

This is off the scale for stupidity.

There is never enough water to go round; if you make it free, people will waste it, and some farmers will get none. Rice farmers depend absolutely on irrigation - the rise of civilisation in China is put down to this very fact. If a Filipino farmer pays for his water, he has "standing" and can demand it, If his water is a free gift from the Government, he has no rights in the matter, and may get none, if he is not flavour of the month with local bosses.

I don't know any subject on which Filipino farmers get more heated than irrigation water.

Bato lightens mood at Senate inquiry with bathroom break request

“Kanina pa ako Ma’am, ihing-ihi na talaga ako e (I’ve been needing to use the bathroom since awhile ago),” the PNP chief added, eliciting laughter from the hearing room.

“That’s your human right,” De Lima said in jest before suspending the proceedings for two minutes.

De la Rosa had been answering queries from senators since the committee began its hearing shortly before 10 a.m., or more than three hours when he asked for a break. JE/rga

    Remarkable.

The man clearly needs some help with diplomacy.

I add a further interesting article where he threatened the press.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/philippines-duterte-threatens-press_us_5751b385e4b0eb20fa0db65e

So.. Threatening the press.. Swearing at the United Nations.. Disregarding the opinion of the United States... Being Confrontational with the Chinese... Sanctioning vigilante murder... Eroding the rule of law with extrajudicial killing.. Threatening to leave the UN... Threatening to disband Congress or invoke martial law...

These all look like the modus operandi of a dictator in waiting to me as confirmed by himself.

    "Duterte - I'm a dictator. So what? "

    http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/768326/duterte-yes-im-a-dictator-so-what

    This article is also interesting.

You may be as surprised as you wish, but the truth of the matter,is that the vast majority of Filipinos do not have the earning capacity or will power of being able to keep any spare income put away for rainy days.

Other members may or may not agree with me, but for many years, the only provision for the future was to drop as many children as possible thus leading to an easier life later on by being kept by the sprogs... This is normally the "Pension Plan"... And if the sprogs have a job abroad, or work on foreign ships, there is also lots of "face" to be gained...

Now you are attempting to put a different spin on it, but equally insulting to the Filipino people.
    Perhaps YOUR truth.
I wonder what our Filipino members think of your view of them.
We are very lucky and spoilt people living in this country as we do, and even luckier to be able to 'lord it' over the inhabitants of a third world country... to grab one of their attractive young women, to carry off home with us, middle-aged stout fellows that many members here are.

Let's not kid ourselves about our own standing in this world... brought about mainly through accident of birth.

He criticized the UN for commenting officially based on liberal "press snippets".. He invited UN lawyers to visit him so that he could teach them how to count accurately. lol!
He asked them why they were so efficient at counting the bones of criminals yet disregard the far larger pile of innocent bones laying at the way side.. (Drug related murders year on year)
He asked them and the U.S to use correct protocol and contact him through the correct diplomatic channels when they wish to address him,The President of the Philippines..
He then reminded them of their double standards and questioned their viability and usefulness in the world today after witnessing how they allowed the second invasion of Iraq and the removal of Saddam which lead to the horrors and disgustingly sad images of terrified and dead innocent children we now see on our TV screens sent from Syria.. Asks them why they cannot produce a mandate to stop these atrocities on the innocent or at the very least control the situation that they ratified..(Ratification based on a lies from Bush and Bliar.)
He mentioned that the R.P tax raised contributions spent funding the UN might be better spent in the Philippines on drug rehab centers.."What do the Philippines get in return anyway"?
He has warned corrupt officials in ALL public offices to STOP stealing from the tax payers purse..This warning has not been heeded so he has now announced that all Government appointed jobs vacant!!
    Unprecedented!!!
