Four men were arrested including a British national after they were caught with marijuana in General Luna, Siargao Island last Saturday. The suspects were nabbed in a raid at a suspected drug den in the said town. They were identified as Liam Cox, Kirby Clet alias “Kitoy”, an alleged member of the Delgado Drug Group, Rolf Congreso, and barangay kagawad, Raul Dycueco. “They were under surveillance for a long time now. In fact, our troops have been returning there. Last year, a surveillance operation was conducted there,” said PDEA Caraga spokesperson, Dindo Abellanosa. Authorities confiscated from the suspect five hundred grams of marijuana worth P12,000. PDEA Caraga said they expect the drop in the supply of marijuana in the province due to the arrest of the suspect. “He’s one of the biggest suppliers in Siargao so it will really drop. The arrest of British national Liam Cox and Kirby Clet will have a huge impact in Siargao Island,” said Abellanosa. The suspects are currently detained at the PDEA -13 custodial facility and are facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act Of 2002. — Bernard Dadis | UNTV News & Rescue# https://www.untvweb.com/news/british-national-3-other-high-value-targets-arrested-in-siargao-island/ oh dear. How unfortunate.
People like Cox bring shame to the Expat community. I hope his sentence will be severe followed by deportation and blacklisting.
A difficult time lies ahead for these 4. With a bit of luck they won' taste freedom for a long long time.
I have no time or sympathy for such scumbags. They give all of US a bad name. The Philippines is NOT Ibiza,or wherever it is these lowlifes normally ply their trade... and it is not in need of any more drugs. Next time it might be a bullet from the President's clean-up squad.
Can't help thinking that police around the world should concentrate on stopping hard drugs, not soft ones. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/tvradio/programmes/horizon/broadband/tx/drugs/survey/ But, it is the Philippines so "When in Rome do as the Romans do".
Illegal drugs are what it says on the label... ILLEGAL... for what the majority of clear-headed people believe, are good reasons. What other laws should people be permitted to bypass ?
In the context of the Philippines this bloke was just incredibly dumb and deserves everything he gets, but the waste of police resource when it comes to the likes of cannabis use the in the UK is just silly, yeah it is illegal in the UK but alcohol should also be illegal if it were a level playing field.
I think the bloke who got caught in Phils was just silly. If we had a thread about this in the UK, I for one would be laughing. "Drug Den"? How funny is that !
I don't condone any kind of illegal drug use anywhere. Neither do I find it amusing... just pathetic... rather like smoking. Alcohol I can do without too. Both of the aforementioned are currently 'legal' though. I would like to be able to drive my car at 150 mph on public roads, but it's illegal for good reason also. Anyway, that's my opinion, and I aint changing it now. Cheers.
I understand your point of view, Graham, but have a look at the deaths from alcohol and smoking tobacco in the BBC article and perhaps the figures could temper your thoughts. It is not you or I, it is the masses of us.
this British guy's worse sin was that naked carabao riding business, which really was terrible actually, not so much as this being in the same room with these disreputables while there was a bit of ganja around. He should not have been in such a situation as that. The very few times I have got hold of ganja in the Philippines I made sure the supplier was another foreigner and not a Filipino, but in the end I stopped bothering because the quality was garbage, and it is no fun consuming it behind a locked door and on your own because there is no way you would ever want to let on you smoke ganja to any Filipino, even a girlfriend. Only among other foreigners, and only in a very safe and secure place would I ever consider it. The best Mr Cox can hope for, now he has got himself into this mess, is a large pay-off to avoid a trial and imprisonment, and deportation.
The fact this is splashed all over the news may well mean he is past the point of paying someone off. Im sure if they solely dealt with him via deportation he would be a thankful man. I read on the news earlier of plants beings destroyed in some province or other in Cebu.
Duterte despite all the war on drugs business is not so much cracking down on pot smokers. He's said he is in favour of marijuana being used for medicinal reasons and in fact he probably uses it himself. But that is grasping at straws really. This kano guy is in trouble. Mr Cox is an obvious ********, that naked caribou business showed that clearly. A few grand destined to improve the wardrobes of the poor and needy mistresses of the BoI officials and for the gas tanks of their cars, plus a deportation order, may not be asking for too much.
Well there you go, you personally have been dumb enough in the past to get yourself in position where someone could have thrown a cardboard druggie warning round your neck and put a bullet in the back of your head with impunity. The fact you ever did it at all is quite telling as there has never been a time in the last 14 or 15 years of my experience of the place where any kind of drugs were tolerated, never mind the current rhetoric. Note that like most of your own replies here I am choosing to ignore most of your post and simply focusing on the bit that I want to talk about because it makes you look like a.................. fool.
Yeah I've seen that before somewhere, I think it has had a few different captions over the years That's a recent picture though as they have the EOS M front and left of centre so 2013-14 or later.
