My wife arrived at Humberside Airport on 22 Ocotber at around 9:40am - just a few minutes late due to weather delays at Schipol Airport. No problems with immigration except for the fact my wife could not understand what the Immigration Officer was saying because he spoke so fast! It has been quite a hectic week since her arrival but she seems to be settling in OK and even the cat has accepted her presence by sleeping on her lap and asking her for food! It has been a long journey since my mother died in 2004 - I had been looking after her for several years and helped out to look after my stepfather before that. Both my mother and stepfather suffered from Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) which is a very debilitating form of Parkinson's Disease. Only after they both died did I decide to look for a wife. So, I had been looking for ten years and only found true love when I least expected it - when my house got flooded by a tidal surge and then being stricken down with cancer a day later. My wife's family had a tough time too - 4 weeks before my house got flooded they suffered from the worst typhoon ever to hit the Philippines - Yolanda (Haiyan). In fact, I probably would not have met my wife had it not been for that typhoon. I helped her family at that time and my wife is now helping me in our new life together. It is a very exciting time for both of us. Neither of us have been married before even though I am 64 and she is 41. Surprisingly, we have a similar outlook on life even though she is Christian and I am agnostic. But we both attend church together - in Cebu when I was there and now here in North Lincolnshire. We are both waiting to meet another Filipino - there are not many around here! Thanks to everyone on British Filipino for the support and help freely given over the past 4 years and eight months. Without the encouragement and help from everyone here, I doubt that the day when I could hold my wife in my arms would come to pass. I anticipate being busy for a few weeks but please don't think I am abandoning the forum. Once my wife has found a job, I will have some free time to actively participate again!
A long hard journey for both of you mate, all the best now and for the future, take care and don't worry about posting here my friend!
Good luck sir, you have been one of the most informative people on here, the way you can deconstruct the visa jargon and share your own personal experience endears you to us all. Sit back now and breathe a sigh of relief because you have reached the end of your journey .... but DO come back, BF still needs you!
So glad to learn your wife arrived safely and without incident. It is usually the case. I enjoyed reading your post Howerd. A poignant and positive writing indeed. I sense a very happy and rosy future for you both. Here's wishing you a stream of happy days to come.
About time your soulmate arrived. Really, really pleased for you. No more lonely days and nights. Someone to share life with. I will drink to that...!!
well done @Howerd, I'm pleased for you. Great news. Its amazing how quickly the time flies isn't it? I'm sure everyone appreciates the fact that you're busy.
All the best for both of you! Now you dont need skype, viber and fb anymore..lol Good health and happines for both of you. And I am sure sooner or later your wifey will meet filipinos nearby.
Thanks @graham59 - the autumnal colours are very beautiful at the moment and yesterday's sunset was one of the most wondrous I have ever seen. My wife keeps taking photos of everything
Thanks @oss. But your journey has been far tougher than mine. You are still not with your loved one and your children are not with either of you.
I would not let her bring dried fish into the country - I was too worried that if they found fish that they would find an excuse to refuse the fish and my wife entry into the country!
It is quite an adjustment for both of us. My wife was living in busy Cebu, sharing a house with 27 other people! I was living alone (except for Banjo the cat)
At least she went home to Manila on Monday for James' 10th birthday but it is only temporary she's going back to Seoul in 12 days time.
