Meanwhile, back in Tokyo for the Olympics, Hidilyn Diaz wins the country's first ever gold medal in the women's weightlifting. For a country of over 100m people, they must be the biggest underperforming country out there? Not even a few golds in boxing.
Her win is being politicised already, she won the gold "under the country's good governance by duterte" despite on her personal Facebook account before the win she appealed for assistance with funds as she needed everyday living expenses in japan, everyone likes riding in the winners car
Well she's certainly getting all the rewards now, P43m at the last count including a couple of luxury condo's. Well done to her and the Philippines.
In a country where few outside its borders can name one famous Filipino, it's probably not a surprise that the regime would look to cash in on Hidilyn. Pacquiao (also politicised) is on the wane but no doubt inspired millions of Filipinos to try boxing, so perhaps Hidilyn could see Filipinos try to diversify away from boxing and basketball. The politicising not too different to the UK where we have suddenly begun to hand out knighthoods to sportsmen/women whilst they are still in competition. At least wait 15 years until after retirement so we can be more certain that Mo Farah, Bradley Wiggins...even Lewis Hamilton haven't been doped up to the eyeballs.
And we'll soon have this fine lady to look forward to in the women's weightlifting. I try and be open minded and accepting of people, but participating in an elite women's competition is insanity and will probably only harm the trans cause.
I fondly recall Mrs R squealing with delight when she saw one of the European shops with (amongst others) a Czech flag on the sign. Close, but no cigar (or Magicsarap or Kopico for that matter).
For the worsts singers, yeah definitely gold. Well at least in my barangay they would, terrible singers. Just had a 3 day festival non stop music during a lock down. And they are pulling drivers for not wearing a face mask.
Odd twist moreso after the "she won under the good governance of Duterte" earlier in the week. https://amp-scmp-com.cdn.ampproject...hilippines-olympic-hero-two-years-after-being
“Filipino 2020 Olympics skateboarding contender Margie Didal on the boarder vibe, growing up with nothing, and giving back Margielyn Didal caught the skateboarding bug when she was 12. Now one of Asia’s best female skaters, she is training for this summer’s Olympic Games in Tokyo Growing up in Cebu City, the Philippines, she was chased by police for skating illegally on the streets – today they chase her for selfies”
My nephew who is half brit half Thai spent around a year in cebu maybe 4 years back? He took his skateboard with him and joined a boarding group, he said there was a few girls in the group and they were superb skateboarders.
Let's hope the sponsors honour their pledges, this guys promised 10 thousand peso a month for life ended after the initial payment, and his kids never got their education. https://www-gmanetwork-com.cdn.ampp...him-hopes-it-doesn-t-happen-to-hidilyn/story/
