Anyone know a reasonably priced, decent quality hotels near to Manila airport that good for a one-night stay? Going over in September and looking for a quick stop-over.
I tend to use the red planet aseana. Just 10 mins from the airport. It's low cost and basic but clean and comfortable and in a good area.
If you're flying out of T3 then there are a few to choose from within the Resorts World complex which is literally just across the road from the terminal.
Cheers everyone. I booked one called The Remington, because it has cancellation available and is cheap, but I may not stick with it. It is by Resorts World. It's maybe a bit TOO budget though! I will take a look at the suggestions. Further ideas welcome!
That one looks ok actually. I will have to check with the missus though as it doesn't have free cancellation so don't want to get things wrong!!
If you check through Agoda there is sometimes availablity for free cancellation in bookings few months in advance.
They don't seem to have it for that one. I booked another with free cancellation. Hotel101. Anyone know it?
Just bear in mind that the road network around NAIA is almost always jam packed from very early in the morning to late at night because of the amount of construction going on. During the day it can take an hour or more to go between T3 and T2/T1 by cab - that's an hour sitting in a stinking, humid atmosphere with diesel exhaust fumes belching all around. I circumvented all that last time by the simple expedient of requesting "assistance" from PAL and we were taken in a bus across the tarmac - and the live cross runway serving the old domestic terminal (T4) - from T2 to T3, a journey of some five minutes.
The main page of that hotel's web site plays fast and loose with the truth. For example: it claims that it's "the only true airport hotel in the Philippines". It isn't. The Mactan Waterfront is within the Mactan Airport complex and is just across the service road from both terminals. From Baggage Reclaim to hotel check-in allow 5 minutes. The hotel also claims "It is a short drive away from shopping centers and world-famous attractions, and a mere twenty minutes away from the Central Business District of Makati". Aside from questioning what "world-famous attractions" would they be - Manila Bay? Casino Filipino? - the hotel would only be "a mere twenty minutes away from the Central Business District of Makati" if one travelled at 2 or 3 in the morning. At sensible times of day, allow at least 45 minutes to reach Greenbelt and about an hour to get to VFS' offices. You may not like the floral pattern of the duvet in the so-called "Superior" room but at least the bed appears to be functional and not about to collapse. The same is not true of the grandly-named "Penthouse": The headboard is reminiscent of a guillotine!
My recommendation would be the Manila Marriott at Resorts World. It's a little more expensive but there is a free shuttle service between the hotel and the various terminals.
Looks nice, but maybe a bit expensive. I'm trying to keep it below 100 quid if I can. The wife likes the look of The Golden Phoenix near MOA, which works out at about 100 once the taxes are added on.
I would definitley say Red Planet Aseana. 10mins in a taxi from the airport approx 200-300pesos watch out for the con artist taxi drivers. Hotel is very clean, great staff, rooms are small but usually £40-60 for the night. A few restaurants next door perfect for a transfer or short stay
I stay at the Best Western La Corona in Ermita, always worked well for me. Rough downmarket area of Manila. Just next door to the Hobbit House, a bar staffed by dwarfs, which has a wide selection of international beers. Close to the awesome G.Point bar, ,which has locally brewed craft beers. Just around the corner from the Robinsons shopping mall.
The new Hobbit House is certainly better than the old fusty smelling place in Mabini Street near Remidios Circle, thanks for that link to the G.Point I take that like the Hobbit House it is an ordinary bar, I would be fascinated to try local craft beers, never been anywhere that sold anything like that. The hotel looks ok too, I am more familiar with the other end in Malate as we used to live there many years ago.
