I think its true to say that we lose more than muscle after 60 I know what you mean about the jeans, like Don I had a black pair of Wrangler jeans (34" waist) and it was a great to get back into them by getting down from 16 stone to 13 some years back. Sadly I have thrown the jeans away now and I'm back to 14 stone which I'm still happy with as I'm 6 foot tall. I lost 3 stone by sensible eating and giving up the demon drink many years back.
It's funny, but I have really lost interest in drink at the moment. Got a cupboard full of it, and no interest.
I think us ageing fellows can all agree that it is our belly fat that is the hardest to shift, needs a lot of will power when there is so much good food being served by our Filipina loved ones.
You look good for your age Andrew, a junior beer gut as I call them is not much to worry about. I don't think you'll be getting sand kicked in your face when you're on the beach at Christmas
I've put on weight since getting married. I was a skinny bugger before that, but I've definitely filled out more since. Mrs M wants me to be fatter anyway. She says she likes me better with a bit more weight. And I'm still only a 32 to 34, so not exactly a porker yet!! She's very slim, and seems able to eat like a pig without putting on weight at all. She says she wishes she could put weight on but doesn't.
Think I need to seriously lose a bit of weight, I thought 32" - 34" jeans were for teenagers, I am quite a few notches above that. I like to drink a couple of pints every day, so that doesn't help much. When I was in the Muslim part of Indonesia earlier this year I gave up booze for two weeks, just seemed like a good idea, however I noticed that I ate a lot more food to make up for the lost nutrients.
I'm sure you can do it, Dave, if I can. You do need to pay real attention to the calories that you eat each day. If you like a couple of pints, just cut back further on the "carbohydrate" and "fat" parts of your diet. I found this incredibly helpful: http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/weight-loss-guide/Pages/losing-weight-getting-started.aspx also this: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/
I need to work on it. I always try to walk a good distance every day, and use an android app to record my daily steps and distance walked, though to be honest I walk for enjoyment rather than to hit some magic fitness target. When I return to the UK I have a Resistance tube waiting for me, that looks easy to throw in to my travel bag, see how it works out.
Its all about moderation really. At work I do high intensity interval training. In and out of the gym in 30-40 mins depending what I'm doing. This method of training has been found to produce the best result. After the training I super set a few weights like bench press, bicep curls and most importantly, planks. All my years of training and I've always hated exercising my stomach which is daft really. Do a set of planks, saw hold for 60s, rest for 30 and repeat as many as you can. Do that along with flutter kicks and you'll notice the old gut shrinking before your very eyes
I use a set of those resistance tubes as well sometimes, very effective bits of kit if you have the room to use them. Some people think they are more effective than using wieghts
Never thought guys would talk about their weight, calories, exercise and the like. These topics are the ones I avoid in conversing to a man because I thought it would annoy them. Anyway, just want to share that I felt 'pressured' by my family towards losing weight because of the upcoming wedding. Is 54 kilograms fat to you?? Have fun with your fitness app Methersgate.
No stone left unturned here Anne, all subjects covered 54Kg, you must be petite, no dieting required, I was probably ten when I weighed that much
That's what I keep on saying to my mom and sisters. I'm still within the BMI (body mass index), hence, no longer require cutting the amount of the food I eat. They are worried how I fit my wedding dress I have to get used to 'stones' in terms of weight. My future husband keeps on adjusting the scale from kilograms! Seventy kilograms isn't that much for a guy, Timmers
I know many chaps here including myself would swop weights with your hubby , I haven't seen 70kg come up on the scales for a very long time either. 70kg is good, I'm around 93kg and 6 foot tall (1.8m) in your money. I am probably one stone over what a Doctor would say to be my ideal weight. Its a struggle to keep the weight down as you start to get a little older, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it Sounds to me that there is going to be a trim Bride and Groom Same as you the missus is struggling but slowly coming to terms with weighing herself in stones.
Mehtersgate's fitness app is quite a good idea. I am always planning to do some exercise since I always stay at home at the moment. You look less that 90 kg in your wedding photo/ profile picture
