My wife arrived in the UK in 2008 and ILR started in 2011. We are currently applying for a BRP but now think we should apply for citizenship so that we don't fall foul of any changes. I am reading the Citizenship application form and, in so many ways, it seems more straightforward than our applications for the fiance visa, FLR and ILR. During the fiance visa we had hassles because my wife was annulled, and I think we had to include her annotated Marriage Certificate with her previous applications. So, in the Citizenship Form (AN) I can see that there is a small section asking about previous marriages where we give details of the ex, where the marriage happened and details of why marriage ended - I'm guessing we just say Annulled and give dates? Do we need to include her old Marriage Certificate or will they just refer to the previous applications because they already have this information?
My wife was a widow so we put deceased and sent in copy of death certificate. It’s a bit much to expect 2 government departments to talk to each other lol!
Yeah - that's what I was thinking. It would take years to process lol! In that case, because they don't ask for it, I don't think we should include the old Marriage Certificate. My theory is that they already have this on their records anyway and I work with auditors a lot and I have learnt that giving more details leads to more questions and longer processes. I asked the advice of a solicitor who is quoting £3600 to help us! Plus the application fee which is £1250. He forgot the £80 fee for the ceremony.
The BC is straightforward application and you have to demonstrate that you have the right to live in the UK. Easiest way to do this is a valid BRP card thr alternative is a letter (official) advising that you have the right to reside
hi, I'm on process of BC, do I need to put my previous application when I fill up online? many thanks in advance
Have you applied for BC before if not then you have no previous BC applications BC applications are outside the visa journey so you do not count those.
No, this is your first BCapplication visa applications are not this, on the BC form somewhere there is a question about your Right to live in the UK you answer this question. You have no previous BC applications, your visa applications ARE NOT previous BC applications
thank you for clarification.. i will be scanning everything by myself .. hopefully i wont miss anything thank you...
Immigration details Have you made any previous UK immigration applications in the UK or abroad? That’s the question im talking about,
The answer is no as you have not made a previous application. What the question is referring to is if say 15 years ago you made an application with some man and it all fell through for whatever reason this would be a previous application and they would be after that detail Your current and recently completed to ILR journey through the visas will be picked up on your BRP number hence why they ask for it as your British Residence Permit. We scanned all pages of passport as there is a number of days outside the UK limit when applying for BC so the stamps in passport is relevant and also scanned BRP
