Steve Some recognised test qualifications only last for 2 years. You can still use a B1 level qualification that you took more than 2 years ago in 2 situations. You can use a B1 level qualification that's run out if you're applying for citizenship and it was accepted when you settled in the UK therefore if your wife took the B1 now she can use it all the way through to British Citizenship application. You are looking at the academic B1 exam which is paper based and computer based the correct one is ORAL only I have copied you the link below, make your wife aware that she may due to covid restrictions take the exam a bit like talking on Skype or messenger where the examiner is on screen in another room and will conduct the test like that! Oral only https://www.trinitycollege.com/qualifications/SELT/UKVI/B1-GESE-grade-5
Thats all my wife and her daughter have(b1) here is the higher grade b1 link and who its designed for https://www.trinitycollege.com/qualifications/SELT/UKVI/B1-ISE-I
Thanks for this guidance mate, my wife took the exam in London yesterday, AA with commendation so chuffed!
Hi so if I'm understanding this right when my Mrs went for her 2nd 2.5 year spouse visa which is coming to an end this October and were about to go apply for her ILR her B1 english test is not valid ? If so I'm sure when we were applying for the 2nd spouse visa to go for the B1 as it would be her last english test she would require as it was accepted for the ILR visa..
No it's valid as she used it within the settlement process that's what the rules above I posted tell you.
This has spiked my 'worry radar' - My wife entered the UK - as a fiancee - in September 2018, with an IELTS 'A1' certificate, which was sufficient for her 1st FLR(M) application in February 2019. As her English is very good - and to save a little money - in mid-June 2021 she took and passed her IELTS 'B1' test, in readiness for her 2nd FLR(M) (Extension) application which we will be making in September 2021. I'm now concerned that her application will be refused because she took the wrong test, or her future ILR application will be refused???
its fine--my wife took b1 for her 2nd flr in nov 2018....and used it again for her ILR last month. We paid £800 for super priority service and she got her ILR BRP 2 days later.
No it's fine what she has done and can be used all the way through the process now. Sometimes Uk gov write in double speak she will be fine
Thanks @bigmac and @Mattecube - My logical brain said 'what can they do if she has passed the highest available level of English test for UKVI?' but my 'other' brain said 'what if...?'
