Hi Everyone! Hope life is treating you all well! Around mid last year I went on to a dating site and kept my location open as I was looking to find a couple of friends for platonic talks. As it turns out, I started to talk with a lovely Filipina girl. We have since become best friends and we are looking into how we can pursue a relationship. I came across this site through some search and was pleasingly surprised to see this was actually ' a thing' and many of you can share similar experiences! She is well settled there, and has no interest in relocating to England, other than travel. I was wondering for some sort of advice from those of you that have gone through relocation, or what other compromises you might have reached. Regarding the relocation, as I see, I could: Potentially ask my company to place me on a different position, working remotely (still established in England) and returning back home a few months during the year. I have previously not had any issues spending more than 6 months away, as long as my payroll was processed in England, but the rules are confusing, as they seem to imply one must be physically present and I don't know what kind of checks the border will be doing now that we left the UK. Find a job there and move permanently. I guess I could sell my house and use the remaining to start a new life there. Whichever way, I don't think I would be able to keep my job as is, and after having worked many years on my career I am a bit sad, having to let that go, but simultaneously excited by the prospects of having an extended family there and starting a family The last bit regards to any sort of activities we could potentially do while travel is not allowed. We talk every day by text and video chat. To be fair I don't think I had so many video calls with any previous partner of mine, but things appear to be good and we both encourage each other to be open and support each other in times of need, which is more of what I can say of my former 7 year marriage. No age gap between us, we are both on our early 30's, so similar positions in career and life in general, good to start fresh Appreciate any guidance and experience share. Till there, stay well and safe
Sounds good, wish you all the success in the world, it sounds like she might indeed be the one if it was me, and your thinking might well be different, but I wouldn't sell the house here, don't burn that bridge, keep it, just in case, nothing in this life is 100% certain except death and taxes as the old saying goes bonne chance
Sounds good, life is to short to have "what ifs" don't burn all your bridges look to rent your house out through a good rental firm, gives you a good excuse to come back to the UK for a holiday to check on the house inspect It! Have fun stay safe and don't regret the way forward
Good and sensible recommendation, Renting the house provides a continuous revenue stream in case things go pear shaped. It has been known to happen ... One advice from me is not to send money over, regardless of what the emergency may be, hospital admission, medicines, funeral expenses the family buffalo veterinarian bill, house roof destroyed by typhoon.... That is unless you actually meet in person, and feel comfortable with it.
in your other thread you say she has family. do you mean she has children of her own ? if yes--has she ever been married? if yes--is her husband still around ?
Have you met this lady yet? Have you ever visited the Philippines before for any reason? Like many, my company is offering permanent WFH contracts for most employees. This has its benefits as I could potentially afford to move to a 6 bed mansion in Grimsby. However, other than Ireland where we already have an office, WFH is not permitted from anywhere else for tax purposes. I've no clue how watertight and legally sound that decision making is. Must admit I'd be sorely tempted to 6 months in Philippines and 6 months in UK if the opportunity arose, but would need contingencies for the internet regularly going tits up, and occasional brownouts.
