Shocking.! The funny thing is that some people queued up for hours in the cars to have their fix at the drive throughs!!!!!!!!!!! Ridiculous......... weeks in lockdown and all they look forward to is a double mac and chips?? Do some people have a life??
subway is rubbish. 3 times--3 different places. slowest fast food there is. does it really take that long to make an overpriced roll? KFC--utter garbage. greasy undercooked skin and bones. how do they get away with it ?
I made fish and chips at home in the Phils at Christmas for the kids, I tried to do a beer batter but I was not that successful, used fillets of cream dory but the fish ended up a bit oily, the chips were much appreciated by my daughter though they are her favourite and I made them from scratch and did a double fry to get the texture, also turned out a bit oily as I had to fry in a wok in not very good oil. I'll practice here next time before I give it another try over there. Also hard to get nice large potatoes over there at least in our supermarkets.
Since my first stop at a motorway services (M6, Lancaster) many, many years ago, because the kids needed the toilets and were hungry, I avoid purchasing food from such places. Once, It was great to stop for a refresh at a "Little Chef" of old, with reasonably priced all day breakfasts, filter coffee, cafetiere, freshly made pancakes and a free lollipop on the way out. Kids and parents as happy as it can be. On a few occasions at Annandale Waters Services, on my way to Stirling for work, I was tempted by the "Chozen Noodles" outlet display. but a better look at the wares on offer, from closer range made me desist.
From the picture I was able to gather that your beer batter lacked air. You probably did not wisk it long and fast enough to trap air bubbles within it. The resulting batter would have retained less oil due to enhanced crispness.
As customer expectations have become greater over the years and most outlets improve, my post was about having a decent bit of food from the outlet mentioned, things really have to a large degree moved on from years and years ago! Iagree most Little chefs pancakes and maple syrup where good.
I find motorway service stations a bit of a challenge these days owing to the dietary changes I have made. If I can I go for M and S where they have an outlet, or if it is up to scratch, then an all day breakfast. I used to suggest how great it might be to have a Jollibee at every motorway service station but I have changed my mind on that one having visited the one in London.
I would have to veto that suggestion,I would rather eat a bowl of thin grey Victorian recipe gruel with a hand carved wooden spoon in a Dickensian alms-house than eat jollibee ever again
