Hi, Has anyone here recently taken Life in the UK test since ease of lockdown? How was it? What's the situation? Is it difficult? I'm a bit worried about this test as I've read the book once, it's a bit complicated with history, a lot to learn. I'm worried of failing due to having at least score of 18/19 to pass it. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Regards, Ej
well--i'm English; have been for 72 years. i just tried a sample online test--and got 19 out of 24. mostly by guesswork. i doubt my wife would get half that number right. but then--most under 18's would be lucky to get any right.
Hi Bigmac, Thanks for your reply. It does seem a bit difficult trying tests online. I'm wondering how difficult it would be in the actual test. Not sure what the situation taking the test due to covid19. I've been answering questions online even I've read the book once, I'm still getting 10/24. I'm poo with dates, so I'm a bit worried
Elaine my wife is preparing for life in the UK test in August. She started in a similar position to you! Don't worry practice practice but don't over practice. What my wife tends to do is when she does a question and finds it in the book she uses a highlight pen to mark the answer in the book then reads the topic again with the answer in. She uses a slip of paper to write the question and puts it with the answer page. It seems to work for her she is getting 20s on a regular basis. Hope this helps
My wife kept doing the online test examples until nearly getting all the questions correct, then attended the test. She didn't bother reading the book. She passed.
I took mine last year, I will need it for next year. I haven't buy any books and luckily I passed it. I used this website https://lifeintheuktestweb.co.uk/test-1/ to study the questioner you can see below on the page people commenting their how their recent exam. I did mock test in different sites or apps as well. You'll be alright, I passed it without any reading books, your is advantage as you got books.
oh--so an applicant can do the life in the UK test well in advance..? and presumably re-take it if the first fails ? how long is it valid for ?
Thanks Mattecube, one world and Mae for your input and advice. I will have to apply ILR this October, so I should really be taking the test before that. Thanks everyone. Good luck to your wives. Hopefully we'll pass it one time.
My wife bought the official UKVI Study Book. Essentially every possible question in the test appears in this book. So after you've read it the 100th time.. you'll always have a good guess of what the answers will be! Having said that, as Brit myself. I found some of the questions initially difficult needed some practice (like exact year/dates of a random legislation etc). But it's very doable
Thank you, Macchiato. I know, it's difficult to remember the dates and names. I can't wait to take the exam even I'm not ready yet. I just want it done so I don't get to think about it anymore
