Hi guys, Im looking to spend a week in Gdansk, Poland at the end of May, do we need to apply for a visa for my wife ?. Travel facilitations for family members of an EU/EEA nationals - Directive 2004/38/EC If you are a family member of an EU/EEA national, please note that, on the basis of Directive 2004/38/EC and relevant Polish regulations[1]you might enjoy travel facilitations. For the purpose of the Directive 2004/38/EC family member means: the spouse[2] the direct descendants who are under the age of 21 or are dependants and those of the spouse the dependent direct relatives in the ascending line and those of the spouse To enjoy travel facilitations, you need to be accompanying or joining the EU/EEA citizen, whose family you are a member of, in Poland. You do not need an entry visa to enter Poland if you meet all three following requirements: You are a family member of the EU/EEA citizen (as defined above) You are travelling together with the EU/EEA citizen to Poland or joining the EU/EEA citizen in Poland (whose family member you are, as defined above) You are a holder of UK Residence Card of a Family Member of an EEA National Please, make sure you hold the original of the document proving the family ties with the EU/EEA citizen (e.g. marriage or birth certificate) when crossing the Polish border.
Paul I think you will need one! I think the above applies to all countries in the EU excluding the UK as we operate outside the schengen area for our spouses but inside for us UK people Worth researching though
My understanding (could easily be wrong) is that a Filipino could travel as a tourist to the EU so long as being accompanied by their spouse. For spouses from outside the EU, as Britain is not a Schengen signatory, visas are required. Unless, of course, the spouse obtained British Citizenship I had to apply for my wife for our Italian Holiday last year, and I will have to apply for our break in the Netherlands soon.
What does this part mean then? Visa required, except for Family members of a national of an EEA Member State or Switzerland, with a residence permit issued by the United Kingdom or a passport containing a Permanent Residence sticker issued by the United Kingdom to family members of a Union Citizen, for a maximum stay of 90 days. They must travel with or travel to join the Union Citizen. A few years ago, our holiday to Italy was spoiled by Jet2.com staff at Manchester Ringway Airport because the wording on my wife's Permanent Residence Card was not correct. So we drove back home, and there were no refunds, and the Travel Insurance I took was rendered invalid by the Visa Rule. Trust me, do get a Schengen Visa.
Paul See this link https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/philippines As my post said above you will need one The Uk opted out see this link The majority of them are countrieswhich are in the European Union (EU). However, two EU countries, the UK and Ireland decided to opt out ofSchengen. There are also fourcountries which are in the Schengen Area but are not EU member states: Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and Liechenstein. https://www.etiasvisa.com › is-t... https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/apply-from-uk/ Does the spouse of British national with UK permanent residence need a Schengen visa? Yes, the non-EU spouse of a UK national requires a visa to travel to the Schengen Area. However, if the following conditions are met then they are not required a visa: The spouse holds a UK Residence Permit that states that the holder is a family member of an EU/EEA National. Travelling with or joining the EEA/EU spouse.
But in this instance the applicant is not a family member of an EU national Yes the UK is in the EU but opted out of the agreement. The bits you have quoted are if say you were French living in the UK and the applicant was your wife.
Your missing the simple point the UK opted out. Paul @Heathen don't let your holiday get spoilt by miss information. Your wife will require the visa take note of @Aromulus mis fortune
Hey, don't shoot the messenger. I'm just quoting the website that you cited. If you think that website is incorrect, don't quote it in future. The UK opting out of Schengen is different to opting out of Freedom of Movement. The requirements for Filipino students, workers etc will obviously be different to those of spouses.
Did I mention You? However by just pasting one of the 2 links I copied in your attempt to take it out of context Please don't tell me what I should or shouldn't do Thank you
I'll take it back. EU website is clearer and more specific. You will need a visa Your residence document was issued by a non-Schengen country and you are travelling to a non-Schengen country https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/travel/entry-exit/non-eu-family/indexamp_en.htm
Remember reading about this some time ago and pretty sure the wording on the BRP issued to wife of a British citizen does not meet the residence requirement. Think it is possible to get an additional one which does meet the requirement but can't remember the link to where you had to apply for it and sure there was a cost of about £65. With brexit may not even be possible now. Safe option is to get a visa.
Possibly but think when I was searching before applied to family of UK citizens. Feels like need to be family of non British eu citizen now
I did try to phone the Polish embassy in london, but after listening to pre recorded messages and pressing the required buttons first press 2 listen then press 1 for operator it cut me off , so i will apply for a schengen visa at £69 plus the cost of the journey down to the smoke for 2 of us, Jeez its almost as much as the cost of flights to Gdansk. Thanks for your assistance with this guys.
