Hello. Thank you in advance for any replies. My husband and I got married 3 years ago but my passport is still in my maiden name. I have just received my 2nd FLR(M) under the 5-year route. Now we’re going to renew my passport and change it to my married name. My bank statements, utility bills etc are all in my married name except for my BRP. Is that okay? What are the documents that I need to submit to update my BRP aside from the new passport? Thank you.
And is it 3 months from the date the passport was issued or 3 months from the date you receive your passport? I’m just worried that it might take more than 3 months to get my new passport from the Philippine Embassy in London. Thank you in advance!
have a read through this link on changing circumstances on your BRP card https://www.gov.uk/change-circumstances-visa-brp
When you send your passport away you can wait till you get it back ( ours took about 6 weeks) then fill the form in on the link and send it off or send form off as soon as you send passport away and you will have your new card when your passport comes back. Either way you will have your BRP card and old passport in the same name and then you will get your passport back and new brp card in your married name
Thank you again for your reply. I’ll just wait for the new passport and send them both the old and new.
Do not send your passports or your BRP card anywhere! On the form (link I sent earlier) there are guidence notes on what to do.
These are the documents that they asked when I filled in the form online to update BRP. So I just have to scan and upload them, right?
I think you are on the wrong form. Open the link I sent, There are 2 options "in the UK" or outside the UK you want inside the UK with a Valid BRP card on the 2nd page is a form called change of circumstances form there are guidelines what to complete you will supply new passport number and a copy of your marriage certificate and post them to the address on the form.
This is the form https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/notification-of-change-of-circumstances-form-mcc
You have to make an appointment to do your biometrics again, they will scan your old and new passport and your BRP then, first scan your old and new passport and current BRP then upload them to your application file, take the originals with you to your appointment, it's like you are applying again. They will give you a list of required documents to upload, there is a fast track application about £800 or standard about £120 takes about 2 months.
Hi Mattecube, my wife just did a name change passport in embassy London and then BRP, was just like a new application, biometrics and all, could not get a free appointment for biometrics so had to pay £120 for that as well.
Hi the OP asks about changing her BRP card as she has or will of done already obtained her new passport, you have described the process for a new passport. As you are probably aware the passport and the BRP should have the same name on, and to change the BRP is a a simple form filling exercise as per the links I provided and is free.
