I just received the following text today from phillipean airlines: Philippine Airlines Special Offers! Manila fr £522 Cebu fr £565 Davao fr £570 Kalibo fr £564 46kg Baggage Allowance Call now 02035159025 Not a bad price but 46kg is massive I hope that helps someone
I know it’s not exactly the sale of the century but I thought it was a good price with a big luggage allowance. It might help someone
I've just found 3 seats available - London to Davao out on July 3 returning on July 23 - at a cost of £637.21 including 2 bags at 50lb each. Not sure how big a saving that is. But it does seem that PAL is costing the domestic sectors at almost full fare.
Fair one don’t shoot the messenger I just the headline price and the baggage allowance and thought it might be some good information for the site
I'm not having a go at you, simply pointing-out that seats at the fares quoted in PAL's advert will be as rare as hens' teeth, hence the "fr[om]". That fare I found was the cheapest available for several days each side of July 3
I’ll put it into context a squaddie going on a 6 month tour has a luggage allowance of 55kg the allowance these flights is 46kg for what 2 weeks + it’s got to be a good thing
46Kg... My luggage maxes out at about 15KG for a three month trip. Booked my Christmas ex-UK flight a couple of weeks ago, - Flying to Manila from my regional UK airport late November - Returning three months later - Cost £612.01 with KLM - Luggage 23Kg (+ additional 23Kg for KLM Flying Blue gold) = 46Kg Think we will fit a month in Cambodia and a month in Thailand into the three month window, we can do that on a single ticket ex-MNL with Thai Airways.
My Mrs went air China Heathrow to Manila in april ...46kg baggage ....£385 return. She said it was ok.
On KLM the combination of my backpack, cameras, computers and extras filling my pockets is about 15kg alone, it was really hard trying to fit everything into Emirates 7kg limit but I've had to modify the kind of laptop and cameras that I carry to manage it. I miss the days of my Gold and Platinum Flying blue I used most of that extra allowance most of the time.
The Flying Blue status requirements have changed this year, it is now by mileage or XP (eXperience Points). Previously 30 flight "sectors" would qualify you for Gold, even if flying a short distance. A few years ago I spotted that a flight from Denpasar (Bali) to Blimbingsari (Banyuwangi), just over the water, was available on the Garuda airlines website for £44 return, I booked immediately. Garuda are also in the Flying Blue scheme. A few days later Garuda e-mailed me to say they no longer flew that route, perhaps they never did, they kindly re-routed me via Surabaya. After flying I was credited with four "sectors" which worked out costing me £11 per sector, at that rate I could have had Gold status for £330. Unfortunately I was bitten by a mosquito in Banyuwangi and got Chikungunya virus, which knackered my knee joints.
