    Hi there,
I need some advice on divorcing my Filipina wife.
We were married in the Philippines, she is still living there. I am looking to divorce her from the UK. ( I currently live in spain but will be returning to the UK next year.
I would be filing for divorce under the 2 year separation rule as we have not seen each other for two & a half years.
according to the uk gov website when I file divorce papers she has to respond within 8 days, this I don't think is going to be possible due to the time to send papers to her and her to respond to the court. ( she is in agreement).
Any advice would be most welcome, thanks

my filipina wife divorced her filipino husband while she was in the uk on a student visa (2012) 5 years separation--no consent needed. no problem. ive really no idea if he had to respond within a set time limit. can you ask at the court youre going to use ?

the court I am going to use has no one to speak to ! just a phone helpline & when I called they just said I need to read the divorce notes on the .gov website which doesn't explain what I want to know.
its ridiculous that I cannot actually speak to someone, hence my questions on this forum

Do you intend to use a solicitor?

Preferably not, I just wanted to do the divorce paperwork myself.

i did too--easy if both are in agreement--and no kids involved. also--in her case--as a foreign divorce it means she can be free too. sorry i cant advise about the 8 days--i would have thought that was impossible.

    That is the plan....
There are no kids & she is in agreement.
Its the paperwork thats she would need to return within 8 days that is the problem but no one seems to be able to help !

Not quite the same as your case, but I was living overseas in Dubai when I divorced my previous wife in a UK court. The court papers that she needed to sign were couriered out to her and she couriered them back. It did take longer than 8 days though. My solicitor petitioned the court to allow additional time due to living overseas, that was not a problem.
