Can someone tell me if any of their wife/partner availed free courses online? Quite skeptical if I'm eligible for it or not. Since I'm in the job hunting part, I'm thinking of availing free courses online and build some UK qualification 'cause my CV is quite dull and not very enticing. No employment history whatsoever.
Try this http://www.open.edu/openlearn/free-courses the good thing is that the Open University is recognised and also impressed me that people made the effort to learn off their own back.
No employment history ...... then no bad habits use that as a positive! If I were in your shoes I would arm myself with a few CVs and go round the larger employers in your area (not on a monday or friday though) ask to see someone from HR be honest and open (as we all know you are) and try and get a foot in the door that way, be prepared to do anything within reason but dont and I am sure you wont let yourself be fooled or messed about. We are approaching holiday season so temp work maybe available, and you might get a break or use agencies Do evening classes if possible sometimes can achieve a bit of networking join a club or 2 again to try and network, also medium to long term OU. Use your charm you will get there I have no doubt and good luck.
I believe the OU is not free. http://www.open.ac.uk/courses/fees-and-funding An ex colleague of mine, recently retired to the Philippines on £50k per year pension, took and graduated with an OU degree.
Not sure if I have the guts to actually go and see the HR to apply for a job, that takes a lot of confidence. I guess that's one thing I should really develop. My charm doesn't work on my partner anymore so not sure if it will work with the employers. Anyway thanks for your kind words.
There's Coursera which is legit that you can try. And read a lot about job interviews so you can expect what are the usual questions on interviews.
Brom, One of the best confidence builders for interview is an interview. The more you do, the better you get.
