Hi. I have booked a hotel room in Dubai for myself and my filipina girlfriend who also works in Dubai, and she has a filipina passport. My question is this, I know there are strict laws in Dubai and I don't wish to get into trouble but would it be a problem if I booked her with me into my room.
I strongly suggest you both fly out to Hong Kong, or Singapore....... Lots less hassle, problems, lashes, head scarves..... Blah, blah, blah............
At least you are aware of the rules and local custom. Its not really ideal but a lot of ppl do get away with it. Just be careful about not getting into fights or being to loud or drunk which will lead police to investigate about the commotion. Im saying this from previous experience. Used to work in dubai and every time my then boyfriend is in duBai, he stays in my apartment but we do get away from the city every and checks into hotel. And we didnt have any problem doing it for the past 2 yrs
What I would not do is try to smuggle her into your room; the hotel security staff will take her for a prostitute and the hotel management will not be pleased by the loss of revenue, and may have a sense of humour failure. Accordingly, best to book now, with her passport details, and check in together, with luggage.
You wont have any problems, they turn a blind eye when it comes to guests in a hotel, it would be extremely bad for the UAE tourist trade if unmarried couples could not share hotel rooms there. I have stopped with my then girlfriend in many hotels in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and RAK. They will only act if there are complaints about you, so pull the bed board away from the wall
I'd repeat much of above but also the law when employed is mainly built around adulterous behaviour. If neither of you are married I am not sure your would be breaking any law.
They would be very much breaking the law in the UAE, if you are not married you can be arrested there for holding hands or giving the missus a kiss. If the police receive a complaint then they have to act on it, my biggest worry there was my then girlfriend falling out with one of her neighbours and them reporting us for living together unmarried. The UAE is not a place to get in trouble, best to keep under the radar when you are working or visiting there.
I do stand corrected. I found this link which specifically refers to hotel stays towards the end. http://www.guide2dubai.com/living/laws-and-regulations/living-together
That's a good article which sums the situation in the UAE up perfectly. As the article strongly suggests, its all about not inviting unwanted attention.
And a sure way to do that is............ I don't know what is so great in Dubai............ I wouldn't bother spend hard earned and deserved leisure time where my civil liberties are curtailed by medio-eval doctrines. The only reason I may be willing to spend a couple of days there, would be to be able to walk on the decks of the QE II once again......... breathe the sea air in, and dream of the time spent on her.............
I think the OP stated they were already in Dubai, or at least one of them was presumably for work. Its not somewhere that appeals to me either but many do and who's to judge. I see the airport about 4 times a year which is enough
Dubai had 15m international visitors in 2016, 1.25m from UK alone, so I guess there must be something good here.
I do not doubt it.......... But for me, not some where I would even consider when planning vacations abroad. I just wonder how many of those 15mill visitors were just changing planes..........
That's visitors. Actual airport traffic was 84m in 2016 making Dubai the busiest airport in the world, surpassing Heathrow.
I must say, for me the UAE has nothing, I only went there for work and to see my wife, far too multi cultural for me for sure and no decent pub culture. A much better and certainly interesting place is HK as you say, its a place that I'm very fond of and is the best place in the world for people watching
I enjoy Hong Kong for short trips, but not too much to do for anything longer. Also I find the Chinese people there, especially shopkeepers, extremely unfriendly if not down right rude. Only place in the world I have been told to f*** off by a shopkeeper who didn't feel I was serious about buying anything from him. I find Singapore much better than HK.
Yes Singapore is more sedate and you don't get chased down the road by shopkeepers wanting to sell you a 24 hour suit or Rolex copy HK is a good experience, ideal for the expat, good pub and restaurant culture which floats my boat.
The only downside for Singapore and HK was that one was not able to get a pint for less than 5 quid.... Mind you.. Yolohama was a cool 8 quid for Carling..... Sod the sailors mission.. rip off merchants
