Yep I'm sure it will impact on tourism. Anything negative will impact, France being an example of such - http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-37164217
I'd agree. The Philippines is too far from Europe and North America to be a good tourist destination, and unlike Thailand it hasn't got the infrastructure. The country is viewed negatively by HK and China, due to the bus hijacking. One way and another, the notorious assessment by the last US Ambassador that forty per cent of inbound tourists are sex tourists is probably not far from the truth!
On our little island we have had somewhat of a Chinese and Korean invasion this year.. Our units and those of others I know of are full of young Chinese free divers and scuba divers.. Seems once they have found an area and place they like, they stick to it and send their friends and colleagues in droves .. Must admit..I didn't expect it but I find them all very polite, respectful and its been our pleasure to be their host thus far..Credit where credit is due. Once our new international standard airport is finished I think we can expect literally 1000`s more.. Huge 5/600 room world class hotels going up here and I suspect Chinese/Korean investors financing them. Perhaps they know something?
Interesting item in today's Rappler: http://www.rappler.com/nation/143927-drilon-pnp-dela-rosa-disbelief-killed-war-drugs 1916 people killed so far, according to the Head of the Police - that's 137 more deaths in 24 hours. These are quite striking figures.
And in perspective of the civilised West say in America for 2015 there where 13826 gun related death's and in excess of 28000 serious injury.
Just for fun, using your figures: USA - population roughly 320 million - 13,826 "gun related deaths" (note: this includes suicides) in a year is 1152 deaths a month or 3.6 deaths per million people per month Philippines - population roughly 100 million - 137 drug related killings per day is 4,110 deaths per month, or 41 deaths per million people per month. Whilst I am on the subject,. here are two more statistics: http://interaksyon.com/article/131712/mayor-espinosa-lawyer-shot-dead-in-tacloban
Once Duterte has moved on, be it at the next election or before then if someone out there carries through a grudge, the incoming president might well purge those amongst the police who have transgressed the line.
Countered by Dutertes recent assessment of the current U.S. ambassador to Philippines as being a “gay son of a bitch"...
Always the case, a new leader needs to get rid of the old hierarchy, and put their own people into place.
Once he has given away the countries resources to the Chinese, alienated the Americans , shot a few hundred, if not thousands of innocent people and neglected the economy, his moment of popularity will have been and gone.
Hardly matters in the Philippines, I reckon, as they all care about is what they can get TODAY.... Tomorrow is another day, and it will take care of itself...
I think I know what Dom means - that many Filipinos are not in an economic situation where they can plan ahead for more than a day or two.
