Ok, so my wife has both a british and fil passport, we got married as british nationals in Mindinao, (lots of buggering about there I tell you, worse than if she hadn't been a brit citizen!) How do I get a fil passport? We were married in her local church and have all the documentation, I just worry that (god forbid) something happens to her, and I have problems taking my kids to see the family.. Is there anyway I can get dual nationality? or spouse passport? I'm still to check up on our local reg office here in the uk to see that we are actually married here in the uk.. (we did notify the consulate and had all relevant forms sent! ( a real pain in the butt!) but we all know how forms can go astray.. Thanks in advance..
Please excuse the muffled sound of hollow laughter! Or as they say in Noo Yoick, "Fuggedabahtit!" To be considered for Filipino citizenship you need a minimum of ten years' continuous residence, and a battery of affidavots testifying to your good moral character, etc. Even a traffic offence will disqualify you. Anyway, take a look here: http://philpad.com/philippine-citizenship-how-to-become-a-filipino-citizen-if-foreigner/
Thinking about it, you are most unlikely to have problems taking your children to see their family; as you certainly know, British citizens can obtain a visa on arrival for 30 days and this is easy to renew
I believe its 5 years continuous residence if you are married to a Filipino citizen.. Not something I would ever consider.. Cant think of one compelling reason to do so.
Thanks for the info. There is one "compelling reason" You can own land, and you can own 100% of a business. I knew two Englishmen who took Filipino citizenship for this reason.
In my opinion,we will always be foreigners here..The constitution says that only "natural born Filipinos" can own land in the R.P... Lets say I was naturalized and a Filipino natural born citizen contested my rights to legal land ownership ,I would definitely be very worried that a Supreme court judge would rule in my favour.. Or not. The rights of our conjugal property here is protected by people that I trust 100% ....My kids.
