Not good news. http://www.rappler.com/nation/108450-italian-restaurant-kidnapped-dipolog A good man, and I would have said that Dipolog was a nice place.
He's been dead since about 2 days after he was kidnapped. Copy-cat crime in the wake of the Samal kidnaps. They wanted to make it look like it was Islamists when it was just whoever wanted to keep all the revenue from the pizza place to themselves. The cops haven't done anything.
The complete absence of any proof-of-life photo or ransom demand like in the Samal kidnaps meant that it wasn't an Islamist kidnap like they were and that he was probably dead after about three weeks. Now that over four months have passed, he's DEFINITELY dead. So why. Well, there's a pizza place that's still open in Dipolog city that's making money for somebody. I think I'd start there. Wouldn't you?
You make a nice point. Like you, I was sure from the outset that this wasn't an "Islamist" kidnapping (the inverted commas are there because I seriously doubt that there are many real Islamists in Mindanao, and I think that most of the people who form gangs and call themselves "Islamists" are in fact kidnapping for ransom). It could well be that he was injured in the initial kidnap and died from his injuries, or it may be that he was kidnapped by people he knew, recognised his assailants, and thereby made it hard for them to let him go. But in the latter tyoe of case the key ingredient is usually shabu, and the operation is usually botched, as druggies are not good at planning ahead and thinking things through. Comme toujours, est-ce qu'il faut chercher la femme?
Yes, I am afraid it may be too late to think about the guy being still alive. And yes, it seems strange that the business is still thriving.. So I am suspicious too. Very. Obviously the police may looking the wrong way due to brown envelope blinkers...??
what I had trouble understanding was the apparent professionalism of Rolando's kidnap. Six guys. In public. At the pizzeria itself. Quite expensive. But Rolando was no prize at all like the rich guy on the yacht in Samal was (and is). And the pizza place, while it is apparently reasonably popular, is not like having the Jollibee on Mango Square, Cebu city for life. If they just wanted to kill him they needn't have gone to all that trouble. If they wanted a ransom, they should have picked somebody else. Maybe they were just a bunch of meth heads. But then again that doesn't tie in with the apparent professionalism of the kidnap either.
Im a regular to dipolog been there 6. Times hes not dead he got released and is back at the pizza place
Even better, he has had an extra year of freedom. The news articles are dated one year and four days ago, April 8th 2016. I assume from Colin's post that he is happily settled back into life at his Dipolog restaurant.
