I love toasted, buttered crumpets but they're hard to find in the Philippines - the last ones I bought were from The Crusty Loaf in Barretto, Olongapo, now long defunct. I hadn't thought of making them myself because I thought they were baked and, like most homes in the Philippines, mine did not have an oven. They can be made on a stove top if you have a reasonably heavy frying pan.

Just to prove it, here are some I made, along with a plate of pikelets, which are crumpets made without a ring. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150771716901505.423403.581601504&type=3

I used a large egg ring, bought at Japan Homes in Cubao, there are also flexible ones.

Once cooked they'll keep in a fridge so you can toast them when you need a taste of civilisation.

The BBC has a good basic recipe here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/homemadecrumpets_70053

I like to get my crumpet well buttered up. Then spoon some honey over it and forget the calorific count....:erm: juicy and sweet...;)
