First of all, let me congratulate you...:like:

Personally I think that using a wedding planner's services, would be a bit of a waste of time and much needed money, there is nothing that with a bit of foresight and planning you couldn't organize yourself, even 8k miles away.
The Mrs can do the footwork required, ie pay deposits, choose menus, venues, agree prices to a budget if there is one, sort out who to invite, etc...

I know that my wife did, because there was no way that she would not have had any involvement into the planning of her big day.

Get your mrs involved, she will cherish doing it...

I still think there would be more personal satisfaction if one does organize things himself, but, hey, it's only money at the end of the day, someone has to work for it...

I think that depends on various factors Dom one of which will be the ability of our intended to manage what may well be unknown experience dealing with suppliers as well as understanding what the grooms expectations/wishes may be.

If the Filipina hae no idea what to do the various suppliers can take advantage especialy if they know there is a foreigner in the mix.

I personally wanted the involvement in the decisions including budget whilst not wanting to have to rush around confirming every thing.

Most wedding planners get in addition to their fees a kickback from the suppliers ,guess who pays for that ?

Paul & Elsa where able to take my ideas give clear prices that didnt get bumped and left us to enjoy our day

Weddingsatwork is a good resource, i am a member and got a lot of great tips from fellow brides and met a lot of suppliers to.

Mind if I ask if you have a budget? There are different coordinators from 10k/event to 100k/event. It will also depend if you want an on the day, partial or full coordination. On the Day (OTD) is what most people would get and it is ESSENTIAL as you need someone to help you with different things like -
Make sure suppliers are on time
    Man the registration table
Take care of the bride and groom
    Coordinate payments on the day
Make sure the program flow is followed
    etc etc etc

If you don't have one, do expect to have a crazy and disorganized wedding.

Yes, a lot depends on the Filipina. Some will be able to organise it all themselves and some not so. Depends...but for us hubbies back in blighty it can be difficult. i had to organise some of our stuff and it wasnt easy from the other side of the planet...

hi thanks for the responses, Ideally i would love to organise the wedding myself and tailor it to our specific requirements but i wouldnt have no idea where to start and my mahal whom i love dearly would be overwhelmed with organising such an event..she works in manila, but we decided to have the wedding in iligan because her family lives in Tambulig, ozamis. I first thought a wedding planner would be very expensive but i hear its quite popular in philippines.
two wedding planners have got in touch with me and they have provided me with there package and prices..i will try to post it here to see what you think and if its worth the cost..basically we were interested a packaged that cost 140,000 ( 2000 GBP)..is that good value for money ?? any thoughts??? you mind if i ask how much you paid ? a rough estimate at least.. There is no attachment but just basing it from the price, it is too expensive for a wedding in the province. When we had our wedding last year, we paid our OTD coordinator 28k which was about 1.5% of our total wedding budget. We had a Chinese wedding and the coordinators are more specialized and cost a bit more. If you got Christine Ong-Te or Rita Neri, I would expect that price.

It's easy to plan a wedding if you know what you want and how much you can spend. I did that while my then fiance was working offshore and was only here half the time. We had 300 guests and it was a pretty organized affair and it didn't look like a fiesta in a barrio, no gate crashers, everyone went home teary eyed with full tummies.

What you need a wedding coordinator for is to make sure that your day is smooth and seamless. I'm sure you wouldn't want to be organizing with waiters and photographers in your wedding gown and suit.

I suggest to tell your fiance to join wedding specific forums like weddings@work, femalenetwork.com. There are also a lot of bridal fairs starting January so she can attend that and meet different suppliers.

Its hard to be more helpful Charly without more info how long will you be in the Fils? How many guests (this can be tricky) What do these packages include and what is extra, have you considered alchohol?(this can also be tricky)The more you share the better the return info:like:

My budget was £1000 I would expect this to be difficult to repeat now but depends what is "essential" in both your views

We had 67 guests of which 10 were mine

Both my wifes sisters had their weddings in the province and used a wedding planner package. They both married Filipinos. I have see the photos and they look great. I cant remember offhand but I was amazed at how reasonable the prices were when I found out. I dont think they were anywhere near £2000.

Oh if that's the case, it is dirt cheap for me already :) it is a full package that includes all the suppliers though. You'd be worry free if they are professionals and just concentrate on enjoying.

Our budget was Php2M for a 300 pax wedding (but we got more than half in return plus many other things). If that is the amount that you can afford then work within your budget. Might be good to compare packages with other planners and see what the inclusions are.
