I've been on a Vegan diet for a couple of months now and have never felt better.
I feel more energetic and have lost almost a stone too, and although this wasn't the reason for becoming a Vegan, it is a nice bonus.

I couldn't have done this without my wonderful wife as she is the boss of the kitchen and she has been very strict with me by limiting my sugar and salt intake too.

    I thoroughly recommend a plant-based diet.
I don't want to be a vegan-Nazi and force my thoughts onto people, it is more of a quiet, personal revolution.

I think its easier to change to a Vegan diet now as there supermarkets stocking an ever bigger range of meat free or vegan foods. Glad to hear its worked out for you Mike.

You need to be very careful, make sure that you get the right balance of nutrients etc. The only Vegan I knew was deathly pale and anemic, I think she had messed things up badly.

Of course being vegan is a lot more than being a "vegetarian", what other things do you have to consider?

Seems like hell to me.

Well Dave, obviously no meat, chicken or fish. In fact no eating of anything that has been alive.
No dairy produce of any kind - No milk, cheese, butter, yoghurt, ice creams etc.
    No honey (Maple Syrup instead).
It is basically a plant-based diet: vegetables, pulses, soy beans, nuts and fruit etc..
Soy beans are amazing and it is used in so many ways.
I am a newbie to all this really but my wife has jumped on board too and we both enjoy the new way.
My wife loves the weight loss too.

My wife has a really good Vitamix which makes short work of any mixing task.

    She makes nice deserts too.

"Breaking wind" happens a LOT more as does the tummy bubbling but constipation is a thing of the past.

I have a lot of friends that are vegan, and my eldest daughter is currently vegan, for me it is not an option.

I don't eat a huge amount of meat and it could be three or four months between steaks, I do eat a lot of chicken and what is wrong with milk or eggs (apart from cholesterol) the animals didn't die :D

Balance in everything and home cooking for the most part is best, Dave_E is dead right when he talks about nutrients particularly some fats, lipids, that are absolutely essential to you.

Last year (November) I suffered an episode of peeing blood, not a little bit, I mean a lot, deep red, totally shocked, after many investigations including a CT scan an MRI scan and a camera in the bladder and another up my bum they could find nothing wrong with me, the only thing that came up was that I had a serious Iron deficiency and I was put on a course of very high dose Iron tablets, not had any problems since.

Iron deficiency is usually a girls problem but no in my case a guy had a big Iron problem.

You won't experience that as you probably will have a lot of Spinach and Broccoli, I was surprised because I make a lot of Spinach curries but clearly I didn't have them often enough, and although I like Broccoli I tended to eat that with meat.

Being Vegan is not just about what food we eat, Jim.
It is about animals and what millions of them go through every day and every year - slaughter on a massive scale.
There is a documentary called "Earthlings" on YouTube which shows this in a very graphic manner and not for the squeamish. Many people are shocked and very upset when they watch it.

For me, it is about one person at a time.........and I am just one person who can make a small change.

Not sure Dave but I never go to the pub anyway. The last time was the British-Filipino get-together in Birmingham a year ago!

My eldest daughter was vegetarian from the age of 16. The very sight of meat on somebody elses plate at the table would make her physically sick. Then a strange thing happened. When she became pregnant with her first child at age 28, she had a complete reversal, she hungered for meat and dairy products. She has never reverted back to her vegetarian ways. Personally, I believe it was her body sending her a wake up call, telling her that she needed proper nutrition for the healthy development of the baby growing inside her.

When they've imposed their will on us, and made us give up smoking
And cut out all our sugar, though we thought they were joking
But find out people die still - from a malignant tumour
We'll find out then that they're bereft, of any sense of humour

It's them you see, who must be right - to know more than we do
And impose their shining wisdom, upon poor me and you
We clearly are incapable, of thinking for ourself
Thank God that they've decided, to take care of our 'Elf

"We know why you are poorly!", they shriek their ill-thought truth
"We are giving you the Secret, of Everlasting Youth"
"You have to stop enjoying - Pork, Chicken, Lamb and Beef"
"Eat nothing else but Veggies, and you will have relief"

"...from every fatal illness, and you will live forever"
"And you can thank me later, for being so damn clever"
Well, I thought and thought some more, about the words they'd said,
Over half a pound of bacon, between some buttered bread.

I came to the conclusion, when all was said and done
That these people got their jollies, by stopping all my fun
Can't smoke a fag or have a pint, nor put sugar in my tea
Cos all the things I like to do, they say are bad for me.

I told them "Mind your business - Bacon gives me strength"
I measure life in breadth, and you measure in length.
I'd rather be a firework - short lived but what a sight
Than sputter out like a candle, fading into night

So steam your sprouts and turnips, and drink your berry shakes
I'll live my life my own way, with sausages and steaks
Pile the meat upon my plate, slow-cooked, fried or roast
I'll pop my clogs a happy man, and make a happy ghost.
