Ok..my fault. I destroyed my Lenovo laptop. They don't take kindly from a fist smashing down on the keyboard. I had got fed up with it not typing tees and y,s.

So..I'm forced to use an Acer tablet..which I hate.

Can someone tell me how to turn off the predictive text before I smash this nasty piece of kit too.?

I want to get a 14 inch laptop..and am considering a guaranteed refurb. Probably 8gb SSD with 500 or higher memory. Any thoughts ?

I've retyped so many words in this post it's doing my head in. I want a proper keyboard.

I bought a refurb Lenovo Thinkpad from Ebay a few years ago on the recommendation of Paul and Jim, and its an absolute gem of a laptop, best one I ever bought. Still going strong, and easy to upgrade or replace parts. Here's a couple for starters:

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LENOVO-T...588445?hash=item3417064d9d:g:ubwAAOSwwFlcgOR9
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lenovo-T...828735?hash=item4b65d24ebf:g:XbEAAOSwZs1b3C9L

I've tweaked my T440 so its starts up in 5 seconds, and apps launch almost instantly. Having an SSD drive makes a huge difference in speed.

May laptop is / was a lenovo ideapad..bought it 6 years ago..new from a shop..ex display. I used it hours a day. Video cable failed..found a spare online from a UK supplier..a fifth of the USA price. Lid hinge broke..but i never closed it after. Still on original battery..simply because suppliers wont deliver to i o wight. I keep it on the charger all the time in use. I would definitely have another.

I agree with Rob, get a second hand ThinkPad, things like the keyboard are replaceable, I take it the Lenovo you had was not a ThinkPad but just a standard Lenovo laptop.

8GB RAM and 500GB SSD are a relatively cheap spec these days, but more than adequate for the majority of normal tasks that most people need.

Ah the IdeaPad's are nowhere near as well built as the ThinkPad line, you should be able to get a good second hand Thinkpad for less than £200.

How are your eyes screen resolution matters 1920x1080 Full HD on a 14 inch screen can be hard to read.

I have a Lenovo T460 Thinkpad also, bigmac and it has been very reliable.

It has the keyboard that Jim doesn't like but I don't use my laptop for work as Jim does.

I have been very happy with mine.
