I don't keep up with the local news, last time I was in the city in 2023 was for the final company christmas party which was actually after the business was sold to the Americans but they didn't do things like christmas parties, so our old directors took us out for the final christmas last supper in some posh place in the town centre, ridiculously expensive and a disappointingly poor steak.

Nice surroundings though, no idea what it was called.

edit: yes sorry IPC is the International Pension Centre and that is their number but no my pension was dealt with in the UK with the online system and a couple of letters all very easy.

That Microsoft has destroyed Skype has made me furious, it started out as a brilliant peer to peer network application written in Borland Delphi Object Pascal, single exe deployment, really elegant, I first started using it right at the begining in 2003, the way it worked meant that the address book, its call routing mechanism, was distributed over thousands of super nodes, it was written in true spirit of the internet and like the internet of old would have survived a nuclear war because they probably couldn't have taken out enough routers to break it completely.

Then Microsoft bought it and ruined it, they rewrote it completely from the ground up in C++ probably and then centralised the address index of all the clients on their own servers so that every call went through them and out from them to the individual clients, they mismanaged it ruined the user interface but they did add some good features like being able to have a UK number that you could call from and receive calls on from anywhere in the world for a small fee.

I'm still trying to figure out an alternative becuase Teams is **** and doesn't cut it, it's missing those kinds of features for ordinary people and it's just wrong for ordinary people that want a messaging application that's not owned by an arsehole named Zuckerberg.
