I'm trying to remember whether Qatar had online check-in facility (for your return journey too).
Saves queuing up with 300 people at the airport. ;) Perhaps check that ?

    Thanks @graham59 - helpful advice.

Do we know if Quatar is a "dry" airline?

I will be coming back (next visit ) via Clark, but that will be my first time. However, I do know the surrounding area and transport system well, so should hopefully avoid the ripoff taxi fares I've seen mentioned, to and from that airport.

Ha - I'm actually quite abstemious in general terms but as I'm heading to meet my sweetheart on her own turf I think this is cause for celebration!

I checked in online with Qatar twice last year, first flying from Denpasar to Luxor via Doha, and then flying back from Luxor to Bangkok via Doha.

Everything worked well, though my seats on both the flights between Luxor and Bangkok were changed at the boarding gates:
    • I was upgraded on the Luxor - Doha flight to seat 02A in Business class
    • I was moved to the upstairs economy section on the Airbus A380 from Doha to Bangkok, they seemed to have a segregated cabin policy.
The wine was very good on the Luxor Doha flight, and the lady kept filling my glass...

Edit: (Denpasar is in Indonesia, Luxor is in Egypt, Bangkok is Bangkok, and Doha is in the middle)

The only 'dry' airline I've flown with is Brunei. Not a single drop.

Can't speak for Graham but I have used Clark several times.

It has two runways, one of which was extended to take the Space Shuttle. The terminal building is smallish, but quite new, and it is reasonably well laid out. It can "bend under the strain" if handling more than a couple of planes at the same time.

Inbound - all very easy, there is an ATM on the concourse right outside the exit, taxis are plentiful and there are buses into Angeles City Manila and Subic.

Outbound the Immigration officials have a reputation for gving Filipinos and Filipinas a hard time. I have seen this in action, in the case of my partner. No problem for foreigners, though.

On the whole, nicest international airport in the Philippines.

Generally, you can get very good deals from first class airlines if you plan far enough ahead.

The best airlines on the route, by a country mile, are Emirates, who will waft you to Dubai on a super comfortable A380, give you a couple of hours in their mile long space station of a terminal in Dubai, where you can buy almost anything, duty free, and take you on in a B777, and Cathay, who will take you to Hong Kong on a B777 and on to Manila in whatever they have on hand but are always excellent. You can stop over in Hong Kong, where everything you buy is duty free anyway apart from fags and booze and you can get those duty free in the terminal.

You can get remarkable deals from either if you hunt around carefully and above all if you travel well outside the UK school holidays!

    Space shuttle.

That would be a classy way to arrive. :like:

I would put Clark on a par with Cebu and both are considerably better than Manila. For my money, though, I would say that Davao beats them all hands down and I have personal experience with all four airports.

I agree. But don't overlook KLM which has the shortest journey time, flies from more airports and is (currently) about 40% cheaper than Emirates and about 55% cheaper than Cathay. And I've noticed that better deals are available on Emirates' own website than on agents' sites such as LastMinute, SkyScanner and eBookers (the same may also be true for Cathay but not KLM where the lowest fares I've found were with eBookers).
