Matt is a young guy that tried his very very best to live here over the years but looks like he couldn't manage it financially in the end..
I respect him a lot because he tried and tried to live the dream with various businesses and projects here..As many do.
If you have no pension or income from outside its not easy...Possible but not easy.. Far from it.
My respect goes out to you Matt!

The Philippines is probably OK as a single man but not taking a family over there.
I could not imagine taking my kids to live there.

My kids are half Filipino, so it is a bit different in my case, but certainly I would not want them in the Philippines' school system.

My kids are half Filipino also but born in the UK.
My Filipina wife does not want to go back there to live now.
She is very happy with the standard of schooling she has seen in England and how organised things are compared to her homeland.
The NHS is also uppermost in her thoughts with two little ones.
As Matt said in his "Spain v's Phils" video, the litter is cleaned up in Europe.

She does not get angry with everyone trying to get as much as possible out of her when her husband is with her.
She went to Thailand and was amazed at how well organised it was compared to Phils.

The Philippines was more bearable when the exchange rate was 90+ when I wasn't a father.
Now the balance has tipped for us in favour of the UK and it won't change.

We will look forward to holidays there every few years or so.

Not just the two little ones. There is yourself to consider.

I think we all realise that the Philippines isn't for all of us, I personally think that if you're not quite well off financially then the Philippines is not for you.

All I seem to read about living in the Philippines seems to revolve around finances, I for one wouldn't like to live anywhere in the world on a tight budget, I'm always over cautious when it comes to finance and always like to have more than I need.

We all know that the fluctuating Peso to Pound ratio will always be an uncertainty that none of us can control.

Better to stay in the UK where everything is more stable for you and the family, and of course we have the safety net of benefits if required and the security of the NHS if needed. If you wrote down the pros and cons of living in the Philippines as opposed to the UK then the UK will win hands down every time for sure :)

Whatever your budget, there are good alternatives to settling in the Philippines.

For me personally there are no good alternatives that I can think of, if it was that good most of us here at BF would have applied for settlement visas to join our loved ones in the Philippines, not the other way around :)

I think the NHS is the clincher when considering moving to the Philippines especially if one is looking at it as a retirement option. I'm sure there are plenty who have experienced the Philippines and initially toyed with the idea of moving there. For me, the input of those on here and also searching other sources generally puts the idea to bed. From a financial perspective it seems the Philippines is no longer the cheap option to live that it once seems to have been and I can't see that changing.

But, there are a number of reasons for considering various places to retire or settle, other than the Philippines. Finance is a consideration, wherever one goes. There are other compelling reasons to consider alternative locations, in fact many.

You say no good alternatives? Of course there are.

We have been here 8 years now completely pension less and without resources or just about anything from the UK apart from the odd BB box once or twice a year.
We are happiest here and far better off financially than in the U.K .. In the UK I hardly ever saw my wife or kids ..A bit like ships passing each other in the night..Now I think about it in retrospect..Rather pathetic existence.
These days I`m over welled by all of my family on a daily basis!
We have made more money than you could shake a stick at..But of course that is a secondary consideration...
